been a long time since i have heard a fight been spoke about to me by non-boxing fans as i have about this one... no word of a lie...since the weekend about 8-10 people have said to me 'that english fella is fighting that giant fella...how do you think he'll do...did ya see the size of yer man..'....and i'm talking real life people, not the modern facebook equivilent my two boys, nearly 9 and 5, came home from school and didnt shut up about it for 20 minutes, and the bigger lad has been telling me that all the kids at school, even the girls, are talking about the hayemaker v the giant fella....the school is divided into two camps about who they think wins.. my oldest fella who's nearly 15 said all his men teachers are talking about it...and its the same with his mates all betting with each other. now...when was the last time there was a fight that generated enough interest to have kids talking like that in the playground about it? whatever happens in the fight, its good to see a boxing match been spoke about so much.
I have not heard anyone talking about the fight but then again I avoid most people all the time, especially those who look like they may try and start a conversation with me.
yeh its got some intrest. everyones been asking me my prediction and i have been telling them it and people are genuinly interested. although its normally whos going to win the giant or the little guy and when i say Haye they go what ones that? although some are very intrested although its more a publicity fight than a really good match. also last fight taht was this big Hatton vs Mayweather. Everyone was speaking about taht for weeks there was a real buzz around everything about Hatton and Mayweather
I am thinking about inviting every one I know around to watch the place at my house but I only have two chairs.
It is huge. To think, I got practically laughed at for saying I think the PPV will do more sales than any of Khan's fights on PPV. It should do 300k+ sales this fight. Got to give Sky credit as well, they have really went to town with the promotion - Hatton vs Pacquiao hardly had any promotion compared to this fight. Plus, Haye really knows how to sell a fight :yep
Yeah defo. A few lads at school today, who know very little about boxing outside of Ricky Hatton or Calzaghe, asked me about it. Even if it isn't likely to be the best of fights you've gotta say Sky marketed this very well.
Your right I had a few workmen around mine and when they saw my signed Haye glove they immediately brought up the fight with the giant. So it definitely has got peoples imaginations going which can only be good for boxing dougie :good I just hope he can get the win and go on to fight Wladimir
a couple of nights ago the sports guy on the north east news mentioned valuev, some analogy along the lines of 'like getting punched by nikolai valuev'. he clearly doesn't know valuev is feather-fisted, or maybe he was being ironic :rofl
I think it helps that the newspapers are given it some serious coverage. It was front page of the Guardian Sport monthly the other week as well as big articles in the Sunday papers. I think The Sun has had quite a few articles devoted to it. It just appeals to the non-hardcore fans more because of the way it's being marketed as the little man vs a giant. As far as most people are concerned it's near impossible to beat this giant as he's so big, that's where the excitement is from.
Yeah its getting alot of intrest here. Although who wouldnt want to talk about a 7ft man taking on a smaller man, its another David and Goliath.
All my mates are hyped. Might have been the 2 years of constant bigging up Haye on my part as well as the whole Valuev factor. If Haye knocks him out he's going to be a big star over here, he's really marketable and this fight could well do good numbers.
