I think you saw the first sentence of my second paragraph and skipped the rest. I was joking.

Yes. A shot Ruiz, a walking statue in Valuev, and the other guys that Haye beat were legitimately ranked in the top 10. At least, I'm pretty sure Ruiz was top 10 ranked by RING at the time. Valuev certainly was.

You've already decided that this era is terrible, though, so that ranking probably doesn't mean much to you.

I find it hard to believe that Ruiz was ranked in the top 10 by RING. In fact, I can't see how he could have been, I would say I'm 'pretty sure' he wasn't.

Valuev was, although his worthiness at the time is contentious, coming off an 11-month lay-off after being lucky to beat a decrepit Holyfield ... (and Haye didn't exactly shine against Valuev.)

Monte Barrett ? No. Not in top 10
Audley Harrison ? No. Never ever worthy of even a place in the top 20 at any point in his career.

Dereck Chisora ? I'm not sure he was either. And that's by far Haye's best HW win/performance.

David Haye is an utter joke. It's incredible how he's convinced so many people that he has some solid heavyweight credentials even in this era.
Even in this WEAK era, he's hardly ventured into the ring with a legitimate 'live' or 'current' top 10 contender. He's somehow managed to fight the old has-beens looking for a last payday, and a couple of British 'would-be rivals' who were both sold more on their reputations as misfits than serious contenders . When Haye stepped into the ring with the world's number 1 heavyweight he was hopelessly outclassed. He's obviously immune from embarrassment, as are his supporters.
His resume is incredible thin, it's anorexic.

Ruiz dropped out of heavyweight rankings (he was #8 on Aug. 31, 2009) after a year of inactivity after the loss to Valuev, and never got back. Valuev was #5, and dropped to #8 after his loss to Haye.

I agree with a lot of this. He has been very cleverly manouvered by Booth he basically took the least line of resistance to get his shot at Klitschko, which would have been ok if when you get there, you put it all on the line and give it a shot. Instead he stunk the place out and was happy to go the distance against a not much less cautious champion.
Even now they're still pursuing that policy and the chances are at some point he'll end up with either a re-match with Wlad or even a fight with Vitali.
Apart from Wlad I can't think of one decent heavyweight Haye has fought.

    Haye is a fraud

  9. Haye has superior upper body movement, explosive hand speed, explosive power, strengh, and muscle to fat ratio (Haye is a lot leaner than Muhammad Ali). I'd say that David has every physical advantage in his favor, and is also an exceptional counter puncher. There is a very strong case for David beating Ali (Danny Williams said that Haye hits harder than Tyson or Vitali). From an anecdotal standpoint, Haye has more than just a punchers chance in this fight.

  11. What's your personal take on this bout (let's instigate a little bit here, and hope that the flood gates of nonsensical golden era propaganda as you called it is rained down upon us in what should be a very entertaining bout of drivel and baloney versus wits and sagacity)?
