In no way, shape, or form is Barrett a top ten Heavyweight. He is an alphabet top ten and that is it.

To the people moaning. Who else should Haye have fought? Take Chambers out of the equation.

We all saw what happened to the last Fighter to sleep on Monte' - Haye better bring his A Game or he'll be sleeping too.

Its not a bad first opponent. In fact quite a good one. A proper HW who has been in there with the divisions best, and who has good power.

Monte has to survive the first 3 rounds. After that, he can start taking Haye apart. If Haye gets to him early though, it could end quickly. I think this could very easily end up looking just like the Mesi Barrett fight.

    It wasn't crap at all.
He said it would be a top ten ranked opponent by one of the sanctioning bodies, and it is.
He never said a top ten opponent, per se, for which there isn't a definitive list anyway.

I have no problem with this fight. Could it have been better? Of course.

But with Barrett, we have a guy with decent power and an average chin that doesn't back down (see all his fights). Therefore, we have a chance for fireworks. In addition, he will most likely come in shape and determined since this is his last go around.

And he has just enough skill for us to get a good look at what Haye can do at this weight sans Bonin.

But Haye has a ton of pressure. He better be exciting, because he just picked a fighter Wlad teabagged a long, long time ago.

it's a pretty good test... like someone said he's stuck to his promise of fighting a top 10 ranked opponent, barrett's ranked #6 by the WBO, meaning he's ranked higher then toney, johnson, rahman, and chapman, so quit bitching

and remember it's just his 2nd fight at heavyweight, and both have been from top 10 ranked fighters

I think Barrett's impressive destruction of Tye Fields will give him a bit of credbility as people will want to see how Haye can deal with decent heavyweight power.

His tolerance to heavyweight powershots certianly wouldn't be tested with Chambers.

Not a bad choice, at all. But given that Haye has been doing all this mouthing, it IS a funny turn of events/ lackluster choice. :blood

I like Monte Barrett, and its good to see him get another chance at the top. And this is certainly just that, if he were to win.

Nothing to get excited about, but I guess Barrett is OK. Tony Thompson and Eddie Chambers would have been bigger challenges, but Barrett is not the worst out from the list of potential opponents. Middle of the road. I guess he's about as dangerous these days as Hasim Rahman or old Oleg Maskaev, and probably a tad better than inexperienced Kevin Johnston and JD Chapman.
If Haye had balls as big as his mouth he would of course have fought James Toney, but we all understand that this fight is too risky..

Actually, Bonin was ranked #11 by the WBC.

And actually it's his 5th fight at heavyweight.
