1964, Young Cassius Clay a brash, Trash talking Challenger goad's the seriously scary Sonny Liston into accepting a fight for his Heavyweight Title. Clay has entered the scene fresh from winning Olympic gold at Light Heavyweight but is a huge underdog for the fight. Clay has also been knocked down by Sonny Bank's and Henry Cooper and boxing fans around the world are expecting a short evening for Liston. Clay want's to antagonize and get under Liston's skin so much that he start's calling him Big Ugly Bear and stalking him until the Champ snap's one night at a vegas casino and get's physical with the young pretender. So let's see if we have the right ingredient's here: 1. Young big mouth challenger who insult's the champ in public at every opportunity. Check 2. Scary and unpopular Champion who is perceived to be so invincable that doubt's are arising for the health of the challenger. check 3. Challenger who did well at a lower weight and has taken to telling the world he is the greatest and all the other Heavyweight's are big slow bum's. check 4. A fight to captivate the boxing world after a few year's in the Heavyweight wilderness. check. Now, before the Ali lover's come out and give me Haye isnt the second coming of Ali, I am not comparing their boxing skill's at all, just the circumstance's and Parallel's of these two Heavyweight title fight's. Can David Haye be the KING OF THE WORLD!
i also admire haye's resolve, but i just dont see him going too far against an intelligent heavy with a solid chin and genuine power
The personalities are somewhat similar... Vitali has this one won, though. He has about 5 inches on Haye and their styles will favor him greatly. Vitali also has more power and a better chin. Haye lands most of his big shots when he is getting punched, too.
There are a lot of similarities - most least, the understanding of how to sell fights and raise interest. Ali lost the plot and went too far in the end, showing a side that I find despicable - hopefully Haye (Like Floyd really) know's exactly where the line must be drawn, and sells this as a great fight. BRING ON THE HAYEMAKER!!!!!!!
I'm not talking about the boxing style's, more the circumstance's and Hype (and there will be Hype) surrounding this fight.
I'd thought of this too. If Haye starts yelling and running about and acting like a maniac at the weigh-in...

I agree. There are some similarities. In some ways, Haye's confidence makes me think, "Maybe he can do it; maybe he's got a trick up his sleeve". We have heard fighters talk big before, but usually they end up fighting scrubs. So far, Haye is doing what he said he would do, by going after the biggest challenges.
Or Klitschko could be forced to quit on his stool with a shoulder injury....... oh **** this is starting to get eerie now
