There is a article on the main page of ESB saying boxrec have this fight listed. What do you guys think of the potential match up? I think its a good choice if its true, as Maskaev is ranked 7th by the WBC & IBF. Even though he has a top 10 ranking, the Haye haters on the general forum will still moan.

Easy KO win for Haye, Oleg's chinny himself.

Good fight, name recognition and Oleg can punch but hes a little slow to say the least.

Decent start at heavy for the Hayemaker.

A big enough name who was until recently the holder of the WBC title - which seems to be the immediate aim, before a unification with Wlad next year.

KO within 3. To be fair he is ranked by the ring, ibf and wbc in the top 7 so its logical.

There were more intresting fights but, if he kncoks this guy out he will be in a position to get an eliminator to fight Wlad.

Anyone that says Haye is choosing easy fight is crazy, as he could have got a title shot with Sam Peter no problem.

It's a tough one - I feel he would be able to take on any of the chumps at heavy other than Wlad. A few more fights before that one IMO - Wlad isn't box office by any means but is intelligent and capable of frustrating his opponents in there.

Perhaps a tune up before a WBC title fight wouldn't be a bad thing, but he would school Sam Peter tomorrow. So............

I have been saying that for a while. Fatso Peter is the best option, Haye will get a belt easily, a few defences for some decent money and he will have something extra to bring to the table when contracts for the Wlad fight are drawn up.

He is not going to fight for the WBC title. Even if he was offerd decent money to fight Peter, he would not accept the fight. He is goign after the number 1 in the division only.

Very odd strategy when you have fat bums like Sam ready for the taking and Wlad not really willing to fight DH for a while. If he gets the WBC belt it will enhance his position greatly.

i think thats a good start, it has a level of danger about it and would be a former champ on the cv.

    good option, like it.

I don't think any of the heavyweight fighters are chumps. It takes a lot of balls to fight at any weight but particularly in the top division.

They might not be as skilled as your would like them to be but chumps they are not.

If it happens it is probably the best fight he could of gotten . Ruiz is busy with Valuev and Ibragimov is considering if he should continue fighting at all, so the only opponent left out of the 3 I felt were the best and actually available to fight is Maskaev .

Maskaev is very suited to Haye too and could provide an easy-ish win over a big name good opponent .

Im surprised at most of the adulation for Haye here. His had a great run at cruiser and is certainly a formidable talent. But lets be real despite being a journeyman Maskeav isnt a complete can. We dont yet know what Haye is like at heavy. His 1 bout there isnt an indication of much. The bottom line is if he cant carry his power up his ****ed. His chin isnt exactly the most rock solid and one thing is certain Maskeav CAN crack. Either way its a good start at heavy but its by no means a forgone conclusion. I prefer to look at it more as a yard stick.
