I think even without the belt, Haye vs Valuev will have to go on. If Haye cancells this fight, it's basically over for him. His reputation won't be able to survive another cancellation.
I don't understand how Ruiz can be a mandatory challenger. He last fought a year ago against Valuev and lost. How in the world is Valuev obligated to fight him again for a title a year later? Should Ruiz climb up the rankings? I mean he got a shot a year ago and lost. How is this possible for him to be mandatory now again after doing nothing for entire year after his loss? This is beyond ridiculous.
That may be true, but he also knows what sells tickets and gets american fans attention again, and that is hype. Part of Tyson's greatness was his ability to get the average boxing fans attention, people wanted to see what he would say and do next. Haye just needs to get in the ring and build some excitement that way as well, could you imagine if he actually knocked out Valuev? This would make many doubters jump on board IMO, if he could knockout a strong chinned fighter like Valuev, many would wonder if he could have the same success against a glass chinned fighter like Wlad.
This way or another the title being off is just a sign of the justice. Haye did not earn the title shot at HW and he already blew out two serious offers, choosing the easiest option. WBA should order Haye-Ruiz for the title eliminator first.
I was Happy when Haye said he would be fighting at HW. I thought he would be a breathe of fresh air but so far he's been anything but. This guy is losing all credibility, I'm starting to wonder if he even wants to fight anymore.
Its just all supposition though. Tyson at least was a supremely exciting heavy who in his early career was in the ring often. Haye on the other hand wants to pick and choose the path of his career. So far since the Monte Barrett fight its been farcical. All this inactivity and for what? If the fight does take place Haye hasnt fought in a year. Thats bad bad news for himself. Valuev isnt the most talented guy in the world but to get in the ring with him after a years worth of inactivity is fool hardy.
Valuev is a walking stiff, his size is the only thing that wins him fights. Even after a one year layoff for Haye, I still believe David has what it takes to outbox the same Valuev that struggled to beat a mid 40's Holyfield. Haye is a little annoying, but he's exciting in and out of the ring. The Klitschko's are only exciting to German fans, here in America there fan base is limmited at best. I do believe David is talented enough to become the star at heavyweight, all of us has been waiting for, for sometime now. He just needs to get in the ring, and the rest will work itself out.
The problem for the US fans you name is that Haye doesn't want to fight much. He has said multiple times that he persues a high risk strategy of only fighting very very few fights, but wants to fight the most dangerous opponents only, strike gold earning a few big paydays. And then retire. He lives in tax-free North Cyprus so he can keep as much of his paydays as possible rather than paying taxes on them like the US or UK based fighters. He said multiple times he will retire before his 31st birthday. That leaves him 23 months after the Valuev fight (if it comes) to reach his goals. Haye has stated multiple times he has no interest in becoming a long time HW champ or making many fights, after the Barrett fight he said he will make a maximum of four more fights and then retire. He is here to cash out. 2-3 big fights, then retire before his luck runs out. Why is that? He knows he could be exposed in any fight by any Top 20 fighter. Making many fights is too risky in his opinion. A single loss would mean losing 2-3 years of time before he could get a mandatory shot at another belt. That's not Haye's idea of his career. If you think is some kind of messiah that is here to bring glory to the HW division and deliver a long series of great fights around the globe then read his interviews. He's pretty clear on the point.
Exactly. Ruiz was always useful to King because he knew that without him, he'd be fighting on the New England club circuit. It is amazing after all these years that he keeps getting title shot after title shot because of corruption and connections. He doesn't even have to WIN meaningful fights and he's made the #1 contender! atsch
Hello everyone,Thanks for letting me join your forum Can I pose this question for you,as a fellow englishman David Haye is an exciting prospect for me, light fast 15 stone plus fighters are good for the heavyweight division Tyson, Holyfield etc .Haye is worth his shot with current fighters out there and one boxing pundit said if Haye was American he would be on the brink of super stardom for his fighting style and persona. Do you not think hes worth that title shot ? what tv channel does he fight on in the USA and do they bankroll his fights? Im not saying hes the next big thing but he deserves his shot Thanks
:think Maybe I'm just watching the wrong interviews, but in any event Haye could change his mind and keep fighting I hope, or at least knockout the Klitschko sisters before he retires.
