    Haye interested in Mercer?
Sal Musumeci's Final Forum Boxing petitioned the WBO on Tuesday to rank former heavyweight champ "Merciless" Ray Mercer. The move was made to make sure Mercer (36-7-1, 26 KOs) is eligible to face David Haye (21-1, 20 KOs) should an agreement be reached with the Haye camp. According to the Mercer camp, the only stumbling block for Haye is that Mercer is not rated by the WBO, and Haye's UK TV contract stipulates that he must fight a ranked opponent. "I'm ready to fight Haye in November," said Mercer. "I've proven that I'll fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. I've called Haye out twice, but I'll only have to hit him once."

Too bad "the ideal opponent" JD Champman backed out. Haye was really upset about that.

This is pathetic. Don't expect a Heavyweight title shot any time soon Mr. Haye if you don't want to fight anyone. Haye claimed he was going to fight a top 10 opponent, then challenge Vlad in "early 2009". What a drop off.

i think this is more of the usual bull**** from haye's camp as well.... but i have to say there is one thing that intrigues me about this potential matchup.

considering haye will be fighting someone who once fought wladimir, it will certainly be interesting to see how he fares against a common opponent despite the fact mercer is even older and more shot now then back then.

haye will be under pressure to ko mercer quicker than wladimir did, and in better style too. from memory wladimir stopped mercer by tko with the ref stepping in due to punishment. he didn't ko mercer cold.

can haye ko mercer quicker and more impressively?

haye HAS TO! because going the distance with mercer or struggling at any time or even tko'ing mercer later than wladimir did against a much older version of mercer will NOT look good for the so called "saviour" of the division.

in fact i expect mercer to give haye some trouble at times, due to his iron chin and experince. i expect haye to win of course, but i bet it wont be as impressive as wladimir's win, and that will show everyone that haye's not some monster in the heavies!

And if Mercer 'prices himself out of the fight' it's going to be Haye vs Butterbean over 4 rounds.

The fight aint going to happen because Mercer isnt ranked and Haye has no interest in the fight.

Lets all be honest here. Mercer is doing this for a payday because that is why he ventured into that MMA garbage. Could haye beat mercer? Yeah I believe he could because mercer is out of shape and well past his prime. Of course I would be rooting for mercer but lets be real. Haye is going to have to start with a no name heavyweight first and work himself up. He is trying to go after the B class fighters who expect a big pay day because they have way more to lose than haye does. Haye if you read this which you won't but this should be who you go after and if you are successful than you can fight Wlad.

    Fight 1 - Odlanier Solis
    Fight 2 - Tony Thompson
    Fight 3 - Lamon Brewster

    ....and if successful Wladimir Klitschko!

This is bull****, if Haye fights Mercer he'll either win a 12 round decision, which will lead to him being critisized for letting a guy Kimbo iced in one round go 12, or he'll brutally annhilate Mercer and put him in a coma, which isn't something we want.

Mercer shouldn't even be getting licensed, let alone fighting power-punchers.

He is going to fight a top 10 opponent. He's petitioning the WBO to rank
mercer in their top ten. If that doesn't work, then he'll petition to have
joe frazier put in the top 10.
Anything to have a sure "win" for the hayemaker.

Haye better not go for a knockout. If he fights stupid and shoots his load early, he may have problems. Even Wlad was breathing hard back in the day trying to finish Mercer. Even though Mercer's offensive game is pretty much dead, his chin is still pretty nasty.

Ray Mercer is nearly 50 years old. He got beat by Kimbo Slice. He is putting his life at serious risk by taking this fight. It's irresponsible matchmaking.

If this fight I will be disgusted.

Nah...Mercer has his wits about him. He is at no risk.

And Kimbo? He took a dive and was collecting a paycheck.

He may do it here, but if Haye bumrushes him like he is just going to blow him out, he may encouter problems.

Being Undisputed champion of lower weight class is good enough credentials to earn immediate a title shot in my mind.

If Ray Austin earned he’s shot by fighting draw against Ibramigov. Surely unifying lower weight class is good enough accomplishment to get one.

How can it be bull**** from Haye's camp when no-one has included any mention of anyone from Haye's camp even mentioning possibility of the fight?
