Haye gives up Luxembourg license Heavyweight contender David Haye today confirmed he has handed back his Luxembourg boxing license, but will still try to force a fight with WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in 2013. Id like to thank the Luxembourg Boxing Federation for licensing me ahead of my July bout with Dereck Chisora in London, but I no longer require that license, said Haye, the former WBA world heavyweight champion. Its been well-publicized already, but the reason I applied for a license from the Luxembourg Boxing Federation was because my opponent, Dereck Chisora, had seen his British license withdrawn. The only way we were able to deliver the fight the public wanted, when they wanted it, was to both apply for foreign licenses, as arranged by Chisoras promoter. In an ideal world, though, Id now like to box on with a British license. Im a British boxer, I have never had any issues with the board and, should a fight with Vitali Klitschko happen, Id be keen to have the British Boxing Board of Control in my corner, simply because they are so experienced and are the best at what they do. Haye watched Vitali Klitschko defeat challenger Manuel Charr earlier this month and remains confident of getting his shot, despite the champions hints of impending retirement and a move into politics. If I was Vitali Klitschko, I wouldnt want to go out on a win like that, said Haye. Even in a predictably one-sided affair he didnt look impressive and the the finish was anticlimactic to say the least. The win itself also means very little, as Manuel Charr proved to be nothing more than an unworthy challenger in a half-empty arena. My aim is to get Vitali in a ring next year, after his election campaign has failed, and bring his WBC world title back to Britain. This is the only fight that interests me at heavyweight, and the WBC world heavyweight title is the one belt Im desperate to win before I retire for good. I won the WBC world cruiserweight title in 2007, and have won many other world titles since, but lifting the green WBC belt at heavyweight would be an extremely proud moment for me.
Was just gonna say something similar. He finally waited it out till Vitali hit 41 and almost 42yrs old.. Let's see if he cry's about the slave contract now. Maybe he can pull out last second again and fight Povetkin for the regular WBA belt.
Why not fight 2 more times and earn another shot at Wladimir, this time by way of mandatory, since he is rated #2WBA, and #3WBO.. Or is that asking to much from a living legend.
Haye waiting till Vitali has to be rolled into the ring on a wheel chair and breathing from an oxygen bottle. :-( Maybe he should throw out a challenge to Ali while he's at it.
nothing new! and we all know what will come next: - slave contract - Haye: "i want 100% of UK sales" - Crazy demands from Booth & haye I guess time will tell
I used to want this to come off but now don't care. Every sane fan knows that Haye bitched out agaisnt Vitali twice already, and as for Vitali, he spent so much of his comeback fighting the Kingpin Johnsons, Sosnowskis, Chisoras and Charrs of the world that it really wouldn't do much for his legacy anyway. If Vitali said he was interested in fighting another couple of years against legacy builders with Haye as the start, I would be interested. As a swan song, I just don't care that much. goo luck in politics old chap.
Vitali fans are already making excuses for their hero. They actually hope the fight won’t happen, so they can say Vitali would beat Haye although they know he wouldn’t
There are like 20 people outside of Britain who think Haye would win this. Congratulations on being one of them. Allow me to clarify: if this does come off, Haye gets taken out on a stretcher, and please bump this thread the day before the fight.
