They asked Tony Bellew about this last week. For whatever it's worth, he said he always spars up until the Friday the week before the fight but he's sparred quite a few "top-level fighters" in America and has seen several spar 3 or 4 days before the fight.
Of course, I might be wrong. There is obviously a likelyhood he sparred within 7 days of the fight. I am under the impression that the hard sparring is supposed to be done by then, however. I'm not arguing whether or not the cut is real, it's real as it gets, its just the circumstances under which it happened that has me befuddled, but then again, its entirely possible he sparred hard and just got cut, it happens. It's a shame, I was looking forward to this fight.
Another very valid point, the cut is at an angle where padding is supposed to be protecting him, had he worn the headgear. We will never know, I guess, unless they release footage of the sparring, which I am sure Booth has somewhere. It's not a good look for Haye, its not the first time a fight ends up a fizzle with him, only this time, he's actually got evidence of the injury, I'm just sceptical as to how he got that cut, if you catch my drift.
What I don't get is how that cut can happen if headgear is covering that area of the head/face. But I do think he's genuinely cut...no fake injury. Like an earlier post said why would he duck Fury when he's always fought a higher calbre of fighter anyway? Makes no sense - he wants the £5million just as much as Dyson Furry does. Heck i think everyone on this board would get in there for that kind of money even if your onto a beat down. Feb seems a long time away and i wonder why its put back so far? What was wrong with early december?
