Haye and his fans love to claim that the "Hayemaker" was the "undisputed champ" at cruiserweight. This is just not accurate as Haye has never beaten IBF champ Cunningham. In order to be undisputed you must have the all three belts.(IBF, WBA, WBC) (if you do not count the WBO belt) That is what Holy did at cruiserweight. Haye never held the IBF belt.
The logic "you beat the man who beat the man" applies to "linear" but not "undisputed" champ. There is a very fine line, there. Cunningham îs actually an excellent boxer, Haye - Cunningham would have been a very good fight. This is not a critic towards Haye as he oviously could not make the weight any longer and went for bigger challenges.
Yes he was, he's the one who beat Mormeck. Cunningham didn't. At the end of the day, any belt not held by THE champion is simply a marker of a top ten contender and something to put on a poster. If you want to say he didn't clean out the division then fine but I challenge you to say with your hand on your heart that Cunningham and not Mormeck was the cruiserweight champion.
I agree with you that Haye was the number one cruiserweight and true champion. However, technically speakinhg he was not the "undisputed" champ. People are just confusing things here. You are undisputed if you hold all the belts not if you are regarded as the top man in the division.
You are undisputed if you A) unify all the belts, or B) beat someone who is undisputed. Bell becaame undisputed vs Mormeck, who then beats him and takes his undisputed status, which is then taken by Haye.:hi: You have no argument whatsoever.
Agreed but He was lineal, ring magazine, WBC, WBA and WBO champ so dont be so dismissive of what he did achieve.
Holyfield was undisputed. He captured all three belts. Haye never hold all three belts so he was never undisputed. Here is Holyfield's record: July 20 -- Dwight Qawi, Atlanta, W 15 (Captured WBA cruiserweight title) Dec. 8 -- Michael Brothers, Paris, KO 3 1987 Feb. 14 -- Henry Tillman, Reno, Nevada, TKO 7 (Retained WBA cruiserweight title) May 15 -- Rickey Parkey, Las Vegas, TKO 3 (Unified WBA and IBF crusierweight titles) 1988 Apr. 9 -- Carlos DeLeon, Las Vegas, TKO 8 (Captured undisputed cruiserweight title) It should be reminded that the WBO did not even exist at that time and personally I don't WBO anyway so it makes no difference.
Give it up, he may not have had the IBF belt but he beat the man who beat the man, (in his own backyard might I add) was the lineal champion and had The Ring, WBO, WBC and WBA titles. Why is there always some Klitschko fan or Haye Hater trying to belittle his accomplishments?
