I really think so. Very talented and powerful fighter that ****ed up his own career. His nice KO of Chisora keeps looking better and better with how tough Chisora turned out to be.
His career is a tale of two halves: Part 1 was fine.... a successful and accomplished CW; Part 2 has been a little bit of a freak show as his physical condition declined. But considering he is actually CW, I would say he fulfilled his potential at his optimum fighting weight....
Chisora? Chisora is the one fight that registered with you? Dude, Haye was a monster at CW. But yea, he wasted a lot of years. 15 years as a pro with only 30 fights...
yes, and hammed lost because he fell out of love for fighting, and brook lost because ggg ruined him, and khan lost because he was draining himself, and calzaghe would have beat all in their prime, and fury beats everyone right now, and..................
Had he not talked his way into a HW title fight, not sure he would've stood out even as a CW.- most dont follow that division.
It's obvious I was referring to his power there. Yes, the Chisora fight was a good showcase of his power and combinations as no one else has done anything like that to Chisora.
If he would be that good how people claim, he would have already become boxing's first billionaire because the UK is where money in boxing, advertisement etc. is.
not sure about potential. i think he got all he could out of it. He was wel short of the operating machine that he led us to believe he was. His HW career only worked because he was so obscure before that, that noone knew he had got koed by a 40 year old man. In another era, a good contender, but not the title...at least no more than a flash entry in the HW title scene.
Haye is a victim of his own arrogance and risk-aversion. He tried to be ultra-smart by talking himself into big fights rather than taking actual risky eliminators and getting mandatory fights. He shot himself in the foot (toe) with his arrogant scheming and fight-cancellations.
I just realized that Haye truly was a beast at CW, but it was a damn short run. And then he had only a handful of meaningful fights at HW. Not that much to put on a highlight reel, and Chisora is near thw top of it. Damn...
The best cruiserweight we have had from the UK 100%. Prime Haye was explosive and very fun to watch. If he had beat Klitschko and retired the year later which is what the plan was, then we would be talking about one of the best from the UK in the past 30 years.
