It's good that he will hopefully keep his speed. If he weighs this against Wlad though he's going to come in a possible two and a half stone lighter then him.

Yeah I was thinking that. He'll need to go up to the early 220's against wlad. The guy will be too big and strong otherwise!

What do people mean Wlad will be too big and strong? :?

How is being 230lbs going to help Haye against Wlad? What do you think he's going to do, try and rugby tackle him?

His only chance against Wlad is to land big shots, and the only chance he has of getting past Wlad's jab is with speed and head movement. Being 15lbs heavier certainly won't help.

Would help him in the clinch and with extra punching weight though...we'll have to see how he does against Barrett in terms of carrying his weight up. If he can hurt Barrett, then he'll be fine.

If Haye needs to do something in a clinch he has no chance. Wlad is too strong whether he weighs 230lbs of which 15lbs is unnatural, or whether he weights 215-220. Wlad only uses clinches as a defensive measure, so if hes clinching Haye is doing well. But to get close enough I think he needs the speed.

I'm not convinced adding that sort of weight aids punching power. It's been proven time and time again, the biggest punchers have speed. The loss of speed is likely to offset anything else gained from adding weight.

    Yea, it's a tough one.

It is odd though that Haye stated he was going away for 6 months to really bulk up big time into a true heavy then comes back carrying just a stone more. I get the feeling there must have been a change of plan somewhere - or perhaps the weight didn't suit him. Then again perhaps he was just talking balonie...

It's funny you should say that but Wlads clinches nowadays are kind of scrum like in a way.

As you say, Haye needs to stay away from any clinch...

He looked a bit soft at the Bonin weigh in (well for Haye anyway).

This time hes added a stone of solid muscle.

This means simply that Haye is still a cruiserweight.. An extra stone is not someone struggling to make 200lbs. Props for going up in weight to look for the bigger challenges but Haye isnt a heavyweight.

I weighed in at 17st 3 today and im a 2 inchs shorter than Haye. Theres no way on this planet i could make 200lbs. Now thats a heavyweight! :)

He's fighting heavyweights in a HW bout , which is enough to consider him HW.

thats not really very accurate is it, why do you have to be a big lump to be a heavyweight most of the best guys have been under 225.

Much of the heavyweight division are actually cruiserweights. They just make up the extra weight with fat. David Haye is what used to be called a heavyweight.
