£400K, ask yourself how they are going to make that work.. and therein are the answers to almost any questions someone might have on the subject

they could only make it work price wise if it was on a mag 7 style card as a the headline , frank then sticks his stable on against cheap tripe and packages it as a ppv

hayemaker simply cant make these numbers work imo . if degale (frank) let the fight happen on a hayemaker car its difficult to see where there gonna meke there money

How much do do you think the purses were for....lets say a Joe Calzaghe defence against Charles Brewer. Probably around 400k as well. This fight would sell 10,000 with an average undercard in London. Add in Sky money and sponsership and the card makes a profit.

And the hype and attention the fight will get in will be great for them in the long term.

yeh. youve also gotta look at it like this, even if Hayemaker made a £100k loss on the show, if Groves wins they would have hottest fighter in British boxing and one of the top prospects in the world which is worth far far far more than £100k. its a "calculated risk" as Booth loves saying

also just because they bid £400,000 doesn't mean Grove will be getting his full 40%. They may have said to him let us put in a mega bid to secure the fight but we are going to pay you less money.

plus I still think they could make a profit on the show. If you get 10,000 in an Arena, with the Sky money, and the press coverage drawing in sponsors to what will likely be an extremely high viewing figure for Sky you can make a profit of this fight. alternatively they put the fight on as chief support for Haye.

think about Mitchell vs Katsidis. He paid £350k for that fight, fair enough Warren got 17,000 at Upton Park but he also had to pay DeGale his 100k, Gavin, Willams, Chisora etc. Pretty sure he made a few quid out of it.

to be honest I am just playing devils advicate here because I agree with some of you who think Hayemaker put in a massive bid knowing full well DeGale would vacate, saving face for Groves and giving him a shot at the vacant title which they can slot nicley on Hayes May 21st show in London

The only way it'll work is if it's the main support to a Haye PPV card. And why wouldn't it be? Ideal.

And as far as DeGale's promotional team are concerned...that's a hell of a lot of wedge to turn down - especially when they're utterly convinced they're going to win.

True. £240,000 even with his Olympic Gold medal contract is double his highest purse. I think Warren is his manager though.

I still think they could make money of it on its own to.

If DeGale and Warren are so confident they'll beat Groves then they should take it. Massive payday.

I'm sure Beeston will agree that if they wait a few years the combined purse could end up at 4m rather than 400k ;)
