Anyone here who has boxed, or who currently boxes at the Hayes ABC in West London? I have heard that they only train fighter's who are serious about entering the amateur game, and they don't allow people to just train. Also you have to be below a particular age. (I'm 25) I want to train, learn, develop etc, then see where it leads. Anyone have any info?
I couldn't find a email address. But i have a number, i'll give it a ring, just wanted to see if anyone on here knew and could give an insight.
Sounds like a good gym. On the flip side of your question, I used to box amateur through my teens until about two years ago and am now 23. Have hardly trained for those two years. I want to keep training in boxing as I love it more than everything, but work hours and other commitments mean there is no way I can train regularly enough to actively compete. I've found most coaches rightly have the attitude that either you put in 100% or they kick you out of the gym. But I want to train properly when I can, rather than go to some expensive non-contact fitness session. Does anyone have any advice on how to work this out? I've found clubs in small towns are a lot more tolerant with guys like me, at least I bring more sparring for their guys, but I'm now living in London and struggling to find anything. Also need a place that's open late and perferably on weekends. Cheers.
A lot of the liverpool clubs are like that- I agree with that a little. But there has to be a place for the less accomplished to go too. I think those that seem to excel and are prepared to give it their all should be given that extra time and attention.
Agree with you completly, and what I would do if I was a coach looking to get results. And when I boxed I lived it and spend most of my time on it cause its the only way you can get results. Problem is, not everyone has the talent to make boxing pay the bills, and you need to prioritise what does. Which means when lads get older they drop the sport even when they would love to keep involved in training, which would keep up boxing's popularity!
I called up today, and it's as i expected. Only people who wish to become amateurs/pro's. They also do a fitness class. But i want to train and try am's when the time comes. So i will go to sign up next week. Thnx for comments.
Where do you live? There is a new boxing club in fulham www. urbanboxing .co.uk they will train anyone there, whether you want to fight competitive or just learn the skills and improve fitness. It is based in the fitrooms gym and has a boxing ring and large variety of bags.
I live in the Hayes area, a good 10 min bike ride from the Hayes ABC.. I'm familiar with Fulham, i go down there to play football sometimes. Next time i go, i'll check it out. Thnx.
