What are your thoughts on this subject? I get the feeling that Haye really doesn't have a lot of confidence in his ability to take a HW punch. Do you think he'll repeat his cautious performance against Valuev, in his subsequent fights?
Haye has always not been scared of taking a hit, look at most of his fights, even against barrett he was willing to be hit if it means he will knock the guy out
If an heavyweight with a decent punch lands a worthwhile punch on Haye then Haye will be in serious trouble.
I think it helps that he doesn't have to boil down anymore as that isn't good for anyone's punch resistance. He's still no Oliver McCall though!
His reflexes and agility, combined with fighting slower opponents will hopefully keep him out of harms way. No-one is untouchable though, so he will get tagged at some point. I think his chin ain't as bad as it's made out to be, but he can't take a flush shot off any decent puncher at HW, imo.
really in an ideal world of heavyweight boxing nearly all top world level guys should be able to floor or stop each other with a flush combination but i dont thin hayes chin is as bad as made out and considering the lack of quality at world level he should be able to use reflexes and speed to ensure the punches he does take arnt flush. i used to think haye had no chance of beating that klits but having seen vitali look pretty slow to me in his last 3 and the proven shakiness of wlads chin, theres a case to make that haye could stop both with the right punch (or prob like 5 in vitalis case) imo
any decent shot at heavy will knoc someone out. I dont think there many guys that could catch Haye clean when hes focused.
not sure if there is a HW fast enough to catch him but if he was caught flush he is vunerable but also... at the moment I think Haye is probably one of the biggest punchers in the HW division
Haye walks into shots when he gets careless, but how many times has he been in actual danger of losing a fight? Twice. Ever. One he lost by stoppage, not KO and not because of his chin. The other was against Mormeck and he was tough enough to take other full-blooded shots after the KD and keep going. He can't hold a shot to the temple - quite a lot of boxers can't either. But he's always gotten up.
Haye will have gained confidence from the Valuev fight,he is still to fight a big heavy that punches his weight but at least he showed he can take a few from a big guy and not fall apart. His chin may not be as weak as some people think.Ruiz wont test it much so i guess the answer will come against one of the klitchko brothers.
