I agree But I disagree here. First of all, I believe a lot of you exaggerate Wlad's chin problems.. No doubt that Haye hits hard but Wlad has never been knocked out clean and often didn't even look hurt in his knockdowns - just clueless and in panic. Mind you, the last time this happened was Wlad - Peter I in 2005! I can't prove it but I honestly think Steward has managed to calm Wladimir down when he's hit. So yeah, in my opinion Haye's chances to beat the current uber-prime version of Wlad are marginal despite Haye being the clearly best contender out there, that's how good Wladimir Klitschko is at the moment. And the probability of outpointing him (no matter if in Germany, UK or US) is close to 0. Secondly, decisioning or even knocking Vitali out is something I just can't picture. Not that it's impossible to decision him at his age of almost 40 but Haye's workrate simply does not match Vitali's. Try to imagine 210lb Haye knocking Vitali out when 250lb Lewis couldn't. Neither scenario seems likely to me.
I agree. A lot of people keep going on and on about Wlad's chin, and use it as their main point as to why Haye would win. However, Wladimir hasn't been down since 2005, against a 240lb Peter. And guess what? He got up and won the fight. Wladimir has also never been knocked out clean, he just looked in "panic mode". I too believe Steward has calmed him down. In addition to calming him down, Wladimir has GREATLY improved over the last several years with Steward as trainer. Seems to me that those picking Haye to win believe Wladimir will be cleanly KO'd by a 211lb fighter, something that several bigger, and just as hard hitting heavyweights couldn't do to a version of Wladimir that's not as good as the current version. Does that make sense to anyone? It sure doesn't to me. Let's say for the sake of argument that Wlad-Haye happens, and Haye knocks Wladimir down during their fight (I don't see that happening myself). Wladimir is going to get up and Steward has trained him how to respond in these situations. He'll get up just as he did against Peter and put a beating on Haye. Wladimir by KO. Vitali by KO or lopsided decision.
Let's not forget the early rounds where Briggs had Lewis in trouble.............. You do remember that part of the fight too? Lewis actually turned & ran at one point. At no point did Vitali turn & run from Shannon Briggs......................
Ok, I'll bite. I think Haye has a good chance against Vitali and a not-so-good chance against Wlad. Vitali is not very fast, neither by hand or by foot. Even in his prime he was not noted for his mobility and his speed. He had decent handspeed, good for a guy his size, but nothing to write home about. Wlad is a different story, he was always the better boxer he just didn't have the chin. These days I have noticed a definite deteroration of his athletic ability. Against Briggs, his foot movement was practically non existant, he would stand in front of Briggs stationary, with low hands, and just prod away at him with the jab for minutes at a time. His head-movement is totally non existant. He leans back in straight lines to avoid punches, something which so far only Lennox Lewis has managed to punish him properly for. He does everything behind a big, powerful but predictable jab, and although he does it well, he doesn't have any Plan B to cope with a guy with good movement and who can give him angles to deal with. I think if the fight happens, Haye will move around the ring and make Vitali chase after him, much like Margarito - Pac. Haye has very good head movement as a heavyweight, and has specialised in his career, from amatuer to the present day, at being able to counter an orthodox jab. He has never lost against a product of the former soviet amatuer boxing style, and claims to find it very easy to find those kinds of fighters. If the fight happens, and I think it will, Vitali will get peppers by Haye's viciously fast right-hand every time he throws the jab. Vitali is a good ring general, very clever and professional, but unlike his brother he does not move to close down space as fast as he will need to in order to trap Haye and force the exchanges. I think Haye will let Vitali throw his jab, slip it, counter with the right hand, and make Vitali frustrated and unable to do what he does best. Both of the Klitschko brothers like to take control of fights and kill them off, they struggle to fight outside of their comfort zones. Haye will not be a static target, he will move, and slip the jab, and he will fire back unorthodox and very powerful shots in return. I don't know how Vitali will cope with this to be honest, and I think at his age he could end up being peppered with hard, accurate shots, and the fight could end up looking like a Heavyweight version of Pac - Margarito, where the size advantage is nullified by the speed and accuracy of the smaller man. The fight against Wlad is different, Wlad is faster, younger, and has a variety of shots that Vitali does not have. Wlad is the better boxer, he just panics when under pressure. Haye has the ability to make him panic, but at the same time Wlad has the ability to really close down Haye and compete with his speed and movement. I should also point out that Vitali is a murderous puncher and the fight could end with a single shot, and that when you're dealing with heavyweight boxing NOTHING is certain. I would not be that suprised to see Vitali win, but if I were a betting man I'd put my money on Haye. Already posted earlier on
Wlad wants the fight, in fact both of the Klitschkos do. It's Haye who's cherry picking ol' timers & also rans..............
Good post but I disagree that Haye would be the favorite against Vitali. I do think Haye's chances are better against Vitali than Wlad though because Vitali has slowed with age a bit, but Haye's chances against Vitali are maybe 20-25% at best. Vitali has a very unorthodox jab that's hard to time with a proper counter. His also throws from weird angles with a hook/uppercut type punch that really a jab or a true power punch but something in between. Those punches will land on Haye's paper maché chin & it'll be all over but the crying in England.
haye is the best hw since lennox. yeah he might have a suspect chin, but so does wlad, vit has only been in with one fighter who went for him and that was lennox, and lennox was well past his best and his punch power had declined. i cant see anything other than a haye victory, k.o/t.k.o vs wlad and possibly a late k.o/t.k.o or points victory over vit on account of his good chin.
Oh man, this is just as bad as the Klitschko boys saying Wlad is the best HW since Joe Louis. Seriously, get a clue!
