Every thread I go into about Haye, someone he has a nonexistant chin. What a load of bollocks. Especially if we're talking about how he will do at heavyweight, since the biggest reason his chin isn't great at cruiser, is all the cutting weight he does. I think people are looking at two deceptive things - The stoppage loss to Thompson and the knockdown against Mormeck. The TKO loss was down to stamina and nothing more. Anyone who has seen this fight knows this was not a clean KO. The Mormeck KD was very deceptive because it looked like Haye had no legs after being hit. Watch the fight again and you'll see Haye slip on some advertisements on the side of the ring. People look at him getting knocked down, looking like Bambi on ice, and think he has no chin. He would have gone down, but it looked far worse than it was. His chin isn't brilliant but it's far from china. When he moves up to heavyweight, it will get stronger. I find it funny that the people who have seen his career say it's "Alright", but those BoxRec whores claim it's "Pure glass".
Getting knocked down by a big banger like Mormeck could happen to anybody. David got up and knocked Mormeck goofy three rounds later, and thats what counts. Haye lets his hands go, and when a fighter throws a lot of punches, of course he's open, so he'll get hit now and again. I expect Haye to improve all around when he doesn't have to make weight. The heavyweight division is for the taking right now, just waiting for the next big star. Haye could be that guy.
Agreed :deal Lets face it, he got stopped by The Cat because he blew a gasket trying to finish him himself, and like Flatnose stated, Mormeck could bang anyone out, especially considering the way Haye fights. He might not be a Duran/McCall in the chin sense, but it aint no ming vase either :good
While i agree his chin is not too bad, getting knockdown by Lolenga Mock shows he is susceptible to being knocked down when hit on the temple. However most importantly, his recovery powers seem pretty decent which is most important.
What can you expect these are 200Lb men hitting each other , if you get caught right you're going over. As someone stated in another thread to many folk on here have their fave fighter and everyone else is a glass jawed bum. Neither man is Wayne Mccullogh ( if thats spelt right I'll eat my hat ! ) but if they are both so chinny how did they get to where they are ?
How about his TKO loss against Solis? Haye was badly hurt on two occasions (wearing protective gear) and the ref stopped the fight.
How many fights does he have? How many times has he been wobbled? How many times has he been on the canvas? He many time has he been laid out?
true...that Thompson knock out, he looked like he was sleepwalking for a couple rounds he was so tired
you just listed excuses. His chin is not very good and no way would he be able to hang with the elite punchers at Heavyweight before his Glass Jaw got shattered.
Take it you are asking because you dont know then? That would be 0. His corner threw in the towel against Thompson. So he has never been counted out and the ref has never stepped in to stop him taking too much punishment. Personally I think his chin may improve a la Cotto when he moves up.
Your right about Thompson but not about Mormeck, that was a clean KD. the reason i know this is because Haye admited that his legs were gone, and in the corner in between the 4th and 5th round, his trainer asked if his legs were back and he said yes.
