I just rewatched Haye vs Barrett. Haye is not impressive with his speed in that fight at all. Being a little faster than an old Barrett, who was too slow for Klitschko in his prime is no great feat. Haye won that fight mostly because he was the more accurate puncher. For large segments of the fight, he didn't move much at all. Haye is certainly no speed demon like Tyson and he doesn't have the surgical precision in his charging attacks like Sanders. Either he turns out to be a lot faster against Wlad or he will have almost no chance to win. Several fighters who fought Wlad said afterwards that he was faster than they thought.
his foot speed isnt mega but he has good movement and good upper body speed His jab is rapid tho he can get a bit wild
what the above guy said. his footspeed is nothing special but he does have good upperbody reflexes and his hands are very quick. his right hand over the top of his opponents jab comes at you very fast.
I think Haye is being overly touted as the next coming of Tyson, but he is good and enjoyable to watch, and as a Klitschko fan I fear (hope i'm wrong) that Klitschko is starting to decline a little.. based on the Ibragimov and Thompson fights so I think Haye has a chance.
Haye isn't as fast as his most ardent fans claim BUT he will be a lot faster than most of the plodding heavyweights in the top 10.
I personally don't think that Wlad is on the decline but is now being taught to do enough to win. I think his team are so concerned with his chin that they encourage him to use a style that wins but doesn't flatter or impress.
Coincidentally I also rewatched that fight yesterday, and I couldnt disagree more. Haye's speed is immense for a heavyweight and he is very accurate with his right hand. He also has better head and upper body movement than I thought as well. However, he has to keep his hands up when Wlad is closing the distance
Haye is accurate until he gets tired...then he starts to throw those looping punches that are slow and easy to defend. He is not a very good puncher when he is backing up...he does punch but he has NO power at all punching while backing up. I think putting pressure on Haye is key...he needs time during rounds to recover because almost every punch he throws is a "hayemaker"... when he is recovering, thats the time to pressure him..Keep him going back. IMO
As has been said, Haye is no Tyson in terms of speed, but he is much faster handed than the typical heavyweight. His wild punches might just be enough to cause Wlad some problems but Haye's lack of defence will be his undoing. Wlad's is a lot taller, and Haye is used to fighting people he out-reaches. He will find Wlad's jab and right hand straight down the pipe far too much to handle. And when, if he does unload, Wlad is going to tie him up, which is going to drain Haye as Wlad is so much bigger, heavier and stronger.
Can't say I agree, I think Hayes speed is everything that people say it is. He'll probably be faster against Wlad as I think he'll have settled into his weight more: if he was straining to get under 200lbs for a while, then I think he'd need a long time to settle into a weight that is far above that figure. Remember he went up to like 230+lbs before slimming back down - i think he's just trying to get a balance going.
