Just an info on these threads and posts how Haye has yet to proove himself, his power, his chin, his stamina, everything at HW... A few years back, a guy who fought at about 200 pounds was called a heavyweight. Simple as that. Louis and Frazier fought at about 200 pounds, Walcott, Patterson etc. were usually lighter... This thread's just a reminder that in the perspective of HW history, Haye has already had a dozen fights at 200 pounds therefore at 'HW', and for example, 200 is 7 pounds more than Roy Jones' weight in the Ruiz fight! Dozen fights and dozens of punches took from 'old weight HWs'... Of course there's a difference getting hit by a 270-pound fighter, but I dare to say that a quick 200-pound fighter does just as much damage with a punch as a slow, body-powered, inaccurate fat f.ck. Haye himself is the proof...
heavys are bigger now than even 35 years ago (when frazier was fighting) obviously. some of that is nutritional and training progressions w/ more guys being taller and filled more and some of that is lack of discipline on some fighters. there's just more fighters that are 6'4 or so and 240-250 lbs. that said haye could probably easily fill out to 220 and be fine in today's division imo -- he shouldn't lose quickness. the only issue is how his chin holds up w/ more power applied.
Apart from Lennox Lewis.. Two best heavyweights of the past 20 years... where 215 - 220 pounds in prime condition. Evander Holyfeild and Mike Tyson. David Haye is 6"3..and his natural weight is 215 - 220 pounds. Good Height, Good Reach, power and speed..and great athletic ability. Not many heavyweights today can say they have that.
Exactly. Nobody can say how he will do until we see him there........but he has the tools for DAMN sure.
His chin and lack of defense will do him in. He is not as skilled as some of these lesser heavys now as well. He is just a puncher with an equalizer that is all.
