Don't get me wrong though, I love boxing, and Im having a blast watching all these pbc, it's not like I want Al to fail. This downward trend is worrying though. If Broner-Porter only gets like 1.5 or something then it's not looking good for him

 

The Broner vs Porter card will be on NBC on a Saturday night. That should be between 3-5 million.

The afternoon cards can expect 1-2 million while the Spike cards will get from 600K to 1 million

 

All the shows have been fine.

Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson, Omar Figueroa vs. Ricky Burns, Andy Lee vs. Peter Quillan, Keith Thurman vs. Robert Guerrero, James DeGale vs. Andre Direll, Artur Beterbiev vs. Gabriel Campillo, Andre Berto vs. Josesito Lopez and Badou Jack vs. Anthony Dirrell … even that Chris Arreola fight, which was supposed to be a walkover but wasn’t at all, I thought they were all very good.

The big misses included Adonis Stevenson vs. Sakio Bika, Danny Jacobs vs. Caleb Truax and, of course, Broner-Molina. I also didn’t care for Kameda-McDonnell, even though a lot of punches were thrown. I just found it kind of tedious. But those were all balanced with a better fight on the same card.

People screamed that the PBC would be the "worst" thing that ever happened. People hollered that it would be the best thing that ever happened.

Three months in ... it's turned out to be a very good thing. Not the greatest spectacle ever, not by a long shot, but very good, consistent bouts.

The locations, I believe, are their attempt to determine where they can consistently put on cards, regardless of the combatants.

They've been to Vegas, Brooklyn, Chicago, Quebec, Boston (which seemed to bomb attendance-wise) ... going to Tampa ... and back to Brooklyn, Chicago, Vegas.

Seems like they're trying to identify a circuit so they don't have to rely on one or two venues for everything.

It's a two-year work in progress. Three months in, it seems to be going fine.

I'd like to see Haymon add more heavyweights besides Szpilka and Arreola ... and they'll need Wilder to fight more often against better guys. Ending the year with a Wilder-Povetkin fight on free TV would be insane.

Haymon seems to "love" the super lightweights, welters and super welters ... but the USA network drove in sizable ratings back on the day showcasing guys like Holmes, Tubbs, Bowe and Biggs, even if they fought nobodies.

Americans have historically preferred heavyweights over super lightweights.

 

Good post :good:good! and yea its only been 3 months, after a whole year we can kinda of get a drift then after 2-3 years we're really know.

I like watching Broner getting smacked around so I thank haymon for that at least. All these other fights are BS fights whether you want to recognize it or not - financial and competitive.

 

what BS fights??? hes making good match ups!! Friday would be better but Khan dont wanna fight a puncher so dont blame Arum, blame Khan.

 

what fights?? Broner-Molina was a solid match up, THurman-Guerrero was a solid match up. Berto-Lopez was solid also. the afternoon cards have been good.

Honestly... at this point, I think a pretty strong case can be made that the viewer pool for the PBC shows is basically the same pool as the HBO and SHO and ESPN and Fox1 viewer pools.

A Venn of all viewer pools by network probably has at least 80% overlap, quite possibly more. The only viewership spikes of relevance that may share less overlap seem to be by region. Reasonably well known fighters are still capable of drawing from their home markets according to the ratings sites.

Ex: biggest bulk of viewers for the PBC show with Broner were from the Cincy and Dayton Ohio media markets. Because some fighters do get local publicity.

I think this is a reality that many have yet to grasp.
