Haymon fighters are the fight games version of canaries in coal mines.

Do you know how much the minimum pay is for other sports not on PPV in the USA. I had a friend who was in the NFL for a few years and never played on TV. He was still making over 500K and that was a decade ago. The minimum is probably higher now. How many fighters become PPV stars? A handful?

This kind of deal helps boxers and is good for the sport. Boxing's golden age was when it was free on TV and covered by the major networks.

Why are you hating? Because it's Haymon and he works with Floyd :yep:yep:yep

some of you lot need to recognize that people's issue with haymon isn't his association with floyd but his track record of ensuring fights don't happen.

at face value this nbc deal appears a positive development, but we need to see how it pans out before condemning him or heralding him as the messiah.

that's all true but i'm just hoping the reason was because he was waiting for this deal to come off.

Haymon has the right idea. Let's have boxing available to more people and instead of having a few superstars making zillions, let's have a wider range of boxers making decent money. If enough people watch his fighter, their profiles could grow much bigger than those who only get very limited exposure on showtime or hbo.

to take an obvious example, if stevenson ever fights kovalev it won't be free on nbc.

I'm with you on this. I, for the life of me, can't figure out why boxing fans are so consumed with PPV sales. It baffles me to no end. I don't buy PPV fights, and I love the idea of fights being on free tv again. And, so what if they turn out to be duds of fights? At least I wouldn't have been screwed out of my (now it's $70) money for the **** they show half of the time anyway. At least it would be a "****" fight for free.
