Haymon trying to trade fighters for Schaffer

golden boys existence is threatned because the president wanted to remove a CEO from his position....a CEO who was running the company successfully the way he saw fit...which is what he was hired to do.....

as i mentioned...they did good business with mayweather for 7 years with no contract.......where was the uproar?

you honestly want to know why i think those pieces of paper are overrated?

because gb has 70 or so fighters under their brand....thats alot of guys to sign to multi fight/year deals.....that creates a burden....imagine every one of those assets has a deal.....

take a guy like broner for example(dont know if hes under contract or not)....guy loses.....he comes back....now lets say he lost to molina....then hes pretty much done and garbage to the consumer....everyone would write him off and say "dont care to see him again"......and golden boy would be forced to push him down our throats and people would hate it.......same with a guy like khan.......next time a dude like khan gets sparked/beat....hes useless to push....he will be written off.....a guy like that will have to be crammed down our throats

GB's best asset, other than floyd, was signed to them....in canelo....most of the other guys have a hit or miss quality to them.....canelo is a sure moneymaker

 

I'll tell where Al Haymon would go: to court. With GBP and Showtime being sued for everything from extortion to collusion. You think Espinoza and DLH want to be deposed on how GBP really got those dates.

But the part you're missing is that GBP 'leverage' with Showtime was rooted in them being able to fill Showtime's fight schedule with Al Haymon's fighters, specifically Mayweather.

When that Al Haymon roster goes away, how and with who exactly will GBP fill those dates? Where is this ready made slew of young, named fighters that GB is going to promote on SHO when over half of the guys who SHO was banking on (Porter, Thurman, Garcia, Quillin, Broner, Charlo bros, etc.) on walk out? You think SHO will continue to lock in dates for GBP if Golden Boy can't provide meaningful content?

Which do you think is the better deal for SHO: Al Haymon's stable with a different promoter like Gary Shaw, Don King, or Goosen or GBP's Al Haymon-less roster locked in for the previously committed dates? You don't think SHO left itself an out in this scenario?

dont be an idiot....schaefer was doing well.....they broke records last year....and showtime, with a 30 percent less subscribers, was doing the same numbers as hbo........he was doing well

Surely being that it's so obvious you're a Haymon supporter you already know this. The question is why even cite Floyd's "special" agreement with GBP to support Schaefer's tenure?

Schaefer has been in the business for at least a decade. When did he all of a sudden start not signing up fighters to promotional contracts? So he suddenly saw it fit not to sign up fighters, and still include them in their cards, because it was in the best interests of GBP? Sure that makes a ton of sense.:nut

Schaefer was not fired, he resigned didn't he? Oscar said he was willing to work with Dick, but apparently it was Schaefer who did not want to work with the other big promoter Top Rank and felt so strongly about this so much that he had to resign.

Hmm, I wonder why, if he had GBP's best interests at heart, and not another third party's, would he feel the need to resign if the owner of the company already decided to break the so-called Cold War and start co-promoting with the other big promoter? Surely this will increase business more than being confined to your own stable of fighters?

Why would Schaefer, an employee of GBP, act in a very unusual way as if he had more loyalty to a third party than to his own company, and leave his job rather than be forced to negotiate with Top Rank?

 

If that's the case then as a fighter I'm definitely going to sign a contract with a promoter vs a manager.

Maybe Haymon can negotiate a quality rate but he probably can't force a promoter to put a "written off" fighter on their cards (unless he packages said fighter with a draw and then he'd be doing the exact same thing GBP would be doing).

If I'm a guy who fights for a living -- and losing, unless your Floyd, is a very real danger -- I'd rather be able to bank of a few more TV dates where I'm foisted on the public.

regardless of what floyd did with golden boy...everytime he fights....there are plenty of golden boy employees working to aid with the promotion....as ellerbe stated when they do a floyd fight....there are so many aspects to cover there are hundred of people involved in the planning alone....they do business with/for him......so what about other fighters with no contract that work with golden boy? how do they deal with golden boy? you tell me since you seem to know

the arum situation is this....schaefer has had enough of dealing with arum....as he stated arum thinks he can talk **** on you one day and turn around and act as if he can make fights with you the next day...he isnt sane anymore and schaefer has had enough of him.....schaefer did records numbers last year without arum and top rank....what does he need him for? its about principle with arum....schaefer has said hes done trying with the guy and thats that.......so he resigned because oscar wanted a different direction......schaefer isnt just going to cave on his principles because oscar wants him to or told him to.......he already proved he could do a great business without arum.......arum has run his mouth and insulted schaefer and golden boy......what use does schaefer have for him? his roster sucks anyways?......so oscar told him he had to or he could leave.....simple...he left

al will milk every penny he can get for his fighter at the present time....and in the event that you are no longer relevant and wanted by the network...you can bet you most likely got the most buck for your bang

golden boy also wants to keep a good relationship with the network/showtime....showtime has to approve fights.....do you think showtime would be happy having to let golden boy cram someone down our throats?....i think the whole "no contract" thing creates alot more flexibility for golden boy and showtime in a few areas than it would if they had to sign every single fighter to a deal......and like was mentioned....its not like haymon was taking his guys anywhere else anyway

Would it matter if a fighter was Haymon's or any other manager's, if he is under a promotional contract with GBP? The only matter of import in all these is that Schaefer should have secured those fighters who appeared in their cards to contracts.

You're stating the obvious there, of course Floyd is the proverbial Damocles sword that Haymon has leveraged like no other. But there was a window before Showtime and Floyd finalized their deal, and after GBP and Showtime had theirs.

Are you actually saying Al Haymon will go to court had Schaefer played hardball and demanded promotional contracts of his fighters? This claim is beyond ridiculous, it's totally inane.

You do know that this was precisely how Haymon operated before, back when Ross Greenburg was being backdoored by Haymon's inside man Kery Davis in HBO, and you have the gumption to now say, Al Haymon would have gone to court, because he would have become the victim of the very modus operandi he used to run at that other network?

Schaefer has under Golden Boy contract perhaps the only current young boxer with potential superstar crossover appeal (Canelo). So he was signing fighters to promotional contracts.

He also has a deal to promote and fly that GBP banner over fights for the deepest stable in boxing, even though that manager (Haymon) doesn't have any of his fighters locked into promotional contracts. So he was getting that money too (as best as a promoter could under those circumstances).

So, what's the problem again?
