That's the problem though, isn't it? Haymon is not a manger - he's an 'advisor' - this means that as the law stands he has no fiduciary duty towards his fighters.

He can get them great deals now because he's essentially an agent of SHO and alongside the 'official' promoter Schaeffer (GBP) can bring enticing offers to selected fighters in the short term direct from the guys who hold the pursestrings....

The tactic is hardly a new one in business - take a hit on profits in the short term to bring in the clients (in this case by paying the fighters more than the market can sustain) in the hope of gaining a large, hopefully decisive, advantage over a competitor.

Unfortunately, however good the deals Haymon offers in the short term, if he screws the fighters over down the line, without his fiduciary duty (which would automatically fall upon him as a de jure manager), they may have little legal protection - he was only giving them 'advice' after all.

 

fighters arent the brightest lot....but they arent completely stupid either......how many guys have signed with haymon over the last 6 months or so? quite a few......its not as if everyone, fighters and their teams, are completely ignorant to his practices and what he does.....and they seem to want this man working for them

Again these so call boxing Fan should ask themselves why would anyone lock themselves into an exclusive promotional deal when it limits your options?

 

When Golden Boy launched, they proclaimed that they would be 'different' from the other old school promoters. That they would be a transparent promotional company that 'took care' of its fighters and got them a real cut of the money they 'deserved'.

Yet, less than 10 years later, 'fans' are mad at Schaefer for not locking fighters into those same promotional 'slave deals' that they (fans) have spent the past 50 years complaining were ruining the sport and cheating fighters.

It's dumbfounding.

just how is he a crook ? No one has answer that question .. Because he quit GBP or he didn't dupe some young fighter into a long term promotional deal, which buy the way done through the fighter manager or advisor.
