They missed a marketing opportunity not broadcasting many of Wlads fights? Please explain. And I seriously doubt HBO has shot themselves in the foot. They're in the business of getting ratings. As soon as another exciting heavyweight comes along that can establish some sort of run against top comp HBO will be there.
Personal bias, or the truth? I have no doubt HBO execs are feeling like they just got kicked in the stomach....again!
Yea it was a boring fight and the funny thing is that they are trying to blackball Rigo for being boring, HBO is full of ****
Wlad is done on Hbo unless if he's fighting Wilder. The guy is the cure to insomnia. An utter disgrace to the sweet science.
Russian commentators applaud men hugging men and pushing them down in obscene positions? Ok, whatever floats there boat, Im not gonna judge them. But in my opinion, the fight was disgracefully boring especially when the champion has so much skill and held almost all the advantages.
I am glad I watched some of the rebroadcast of the fight because I forgot the great joke Roy Jones Jr. told when he referred to himself as heavyweight champion. That had me laughing a second time. Maybe Jones ought to boast again how he could KO both Klitschkos if he fought them. It was also mildly amusing when Kellerman tried to explain why it is exciting to watch Floyd Mayweather work his defense while watching Klitschko defend himself is not exciting. Something to the effect that Mayweather uses his legs etc. in the center of the ring to avoid punches. Really Maxie, you think a 6' 5"+ fighter should fight like Mayweather? I wonder how Kellerman's previous comments about Archie Moore square with his comments about Klitschko. Moore's philosophy behind being a successful boxer was to punch his opponents and tie them up before they could punch back. Another big joke is reading on this board about how fat Povetkin is and how he couldn't go the distance because of his poor conditioning. There were many jokes about this fight but I think the funniest ones are the ones that happened outside the ring. But the fight did suck, it was too one-sided, too dominant by Klitschko, just the same it was better than Chavez Jr.'s gift win over Brian Vera.
Maybe HBO is his curse? His last three performance on HBO were against Ibragimov, Haye, and Povetkin. All these fights disappointed. Also HBO is stupid for not picking up fights against a taller fighter. Wlad-Wach was definitely more entertaining
Do you think Lewis deserved to fight again after the first Holyfield fight? After all, Holyfield was an elderly guy, who at one time won a bronze medal in the Olympics and Lewis was (supposedly) limited to a draw by Holyfield? While Klitschko fought a prime opponent who was an Olympic superheavyweight gold medalist. Do you think Chavez Jr. deserves to fight again on HBO after he was clearly given a gift decision win over Brian Vera? Like him or not, Klitschko has not yet relied on a gift decision. He either wins convincingly or loses convincingly. Believe it or not, there is a silver lining in this fight. Should Muhamad Ali been banned from the Wide World of Sports after he was outboxed by Leon Spinks who only had 8 professional fights when he defeated Ali? Before writing the predictable "Ali was past his prime" repost, Ali was 36 years old at the time. When Klitschko was 36 he defeated that veritable lion-hearted David Haye. People will eventually "appreciate" Klitschko after he retires. I would rather see Klitschko on HBO again before I watch another Chavez Jr. fight.
Yes, but Wach was and still is an unproven commodity in the division. Take the steroids and Illegal wraps out of the equation and its probably just another boring fight with a stoppage over an untested fighter.
Haye wanted no part of being punched by Klitschko ( utter rubbish as Haye claimed before the fight ). Ibragimov may have the best chin I've ever seen in boxing. He took a huge shot from Klitschko but I also saw him take a huge shot from Corey Sanders while sparring ( the US Corey Sanders who is a huge man himself ) and Ibragimov also absorbed a full leverage punch from another huge fighter, I believe it was Lance Whitaker, Ibragimov dusted himself off and kept on going. Against Povetkin, I have seen title fights waved off and TKOs victories declared against opponents who took less punishment. So in the 7th round it very well may have been a TKO win for Klitschko had another referee been in the ring with them tonight. But I will admit, I hate the style Klitschko developed. It's awful. But in boxing you can find plenty of stinky things to complain about.
Or receiving gift decisions they definitely do not deserve because they draw crowds. I guess that part slipped by you as well as the 7th round between Povetkin and Klitschko, he was definitely going for a KO there. If Sdunek had trained Klitschko for his whole career Klitschko would have fought the entire fight like he fought in the 7th. It may be sacrosanct but you can blame the late great Emanuel Steward for Klitschkos hug and mug style.
