Its starting to seem that this attrocity of a fight is going to take place. As well as the Judah-Margarito fight in the undercard. I guess that Bob Arum is intent on matching Cotto-Margarito.

So its a great possibility that Cotto-Margarito happens in June/July. The most obvious date is the day before the Puerto Rican day parade but for some reason I think that Arum lost that date.

So lets say that Cotto beats Gomez and Margarito...DLH and PBF fight is September...who would be Cotto's next opponent if he were to defeat Margarito in June/July.

I guess we would have to look at Cintron and Williams and the possibility for PBF-Cotto for this year seems even more of an impossibility.

    What do you think?

Is that the Cotto-Quintana fight in the avatar? I was there as well. Was even at Cuba Libre when Cotto was there.

Miguel Cotto’s manager/trainer, Evangelista Cotto, told El Nuevo Dia that a May 3 superfight with Oscar De La Hoya is the preferred fight for the unbeaten Puerto Rican champion.

"Right now a fight with De la Hoya is more marketable than one with Mayweather," said Evangelista, "even though De la Hoya lost to Mayweather in his last fight and Mayweather won last night against Hatton, De La Hoya remains the most marketable....the other names that have been mentioned to fight with Miguel do not compare economically with a fight with De la Hoya."

Cotto and Crew never had Floyd on their target.

I might do that, too, but not until this season of The Wire ends.

Well... it's sad that Oscar choose Mayweather and they'll fight as late as SEPTEMBER. How disgusting is that...

That means ONE fight in 2008 for BOTH DLH and Mayweather and it's a strong possibility that the rematch will be the very last fight for both... if that's the case it's even more horrible.

Well... Cotto-Gomez is a bad mismatch, but Margarito-Judah is an EXCELLENT undercard, even better than the main event itself.

CONTENDER GUYS KEEP GETTING DESTROYED AND IT WON'T BE ANY DIFFERENT IN GOMEZ' CASE!!!

Decent speed, better than average boxing skills, exciting style, HUGE heart but that doesn't make him competitive. It WILL be as entertaing as a short bad beating can be but it will be short and bad. The problem is that we already know that it will be short and bad and thad doesn't make us pumped up.

All this Mayweather-Cotto-Williams-Cintron situation is bad... There's 4 great, young talents, who are actually champions... but:

    - Mayweather retired but wait he is fight Oscar AGAIN
    - Cotto fights Gomez and than the already beaten Margarito. Sure, it sounds good but there's a guy who actually beat Margarito last year.
    - Cintron chickening out from unification too.

Williams is the only one today who is shouting for unification or ready to take risks. I hope he'll get a big fight against Mosley or anyone else but it's unlikely.

So. In 2008 Cotto should've fought Margarito as a tune-up, De La Hoya as a big fight and Mayweather as a HUGE fight insted I see him fighting B- level Gomez, B+ level Margarito and maybe a Collazo in the end.

    What we'll miss in 2008:
    Cotto-Mayweather
    Cotto-Williams
    Williams-Cintron
    Williams-Mayweather
    Margarito-Cintron

    that's bad...

Cotto definitely deserves a stay busy fight, and now I am really sure that Mayweather will never fight Cotto. Because he cleary is avoiding him.

I am convinced that the fix is in on for this fight and Oscar "somehow" lands one that lucky punch so that they can sell us the third installment.

Don't bet the house on Mayweather for this one.

So HBO has such a hard-on for Cotto that THIS is the main event on a show with Judah vs Margarito? That's a much more intruiging and competitve fight than this crap.

Mayweather didn't retire. AND he said he was going to take about a year or two off. Not his fault Cotto's crew wanted nothing to do with him. Mayweather will have taken about a year if by the time he fights DLH. hopefully Cotto and crew will target him by the end of the year or beginning of 09

While I believe Gomez is the ONLY good thing to come from contender I think he will be pummeled by Cotto...This fight is a waste of time for Cotto...If Mayweather wants to join the non-entity club with DLH then Cotto-Williams would be a good fight
