HBO BAD: Alfredo Angulo vs. James Kirkland & Peter Quillin vs. Craig McEwan RBR

Happy the BETTER fighters won tonight. Glad to see that the chincheckers were WRONG about JK.......took some huge shots, yeah went down, but come up quickly as we know him to do, and went right back to dominating.

Most Kirkland fans knew for the most part that his lack of defense would get him seated throughout his career, but we also KNEW that the Ishiida fight was a fluke due to him being overtrained, never leaving the gym or the ring over the course of several straight fights.

Hope he takes some time off now. Gets a little time to relax without a CO over his back or a trainer overworking him. He's climbed the ladder, quieted his haters, and should look to take out Ishiida in the SPRING, but not a day before 1 yr out from his KO loss. :good

 

Max is incapable of pumping anybody up.

 

Hell of a fight, Kirkland is the juggernaut all he needs is a bit of momentum.
Id pay to see a rematch, Angulo completely unloaded in the first round and i think if they fight again it would be more competitive.

 

didnt matter. In a fight like this, it comes down to who is the best conditioned. Team Wolf trains harder we all know that

I think he was just laughing at his head to body ratio... Like I do sometimes. It could be in the middle of a pac combo and I just think "damn that dude's head is big".

 

Fight was amazing. I haven't been this excited before or during a fight for a long time. Round 1 is a lock for round of the year - more action in one round than most 12 round bouts. Just brutal. Both guys bombing away, both hurt and dropped. Both showed their hearts. Angulo nailed and hurt Kirkland, but James showed that although his legs go when he's hit on the button, his head is still there. He was frisky, fighting back, and defending in his own way even when badly hurt. But then Angulo made the cardinal sin when fighting a puncher by not paying attention to defense at all times. Kirkland nailed him when Angulo had shot his load and was vulnerable, and Alfredo was never again the same. But Angulo showed a heart that hasn't been seen since Gatti, taking a hellish beating that I was fearful would send him to the hospital needing brain surgery. I hope he's okay. He never gave up even though he took a beating that would have stopped 10 fighters. He was in better shape than the commentators gave him credit for. You cannot take that kind of punishment from a huge puncher and keep fighting back for as long as he did without being in shape. They underestimate just how much those bombs took out of Angulo. He kept believing in himself because I think he thought that if he could weather the storm long enough that he might be able to land something to change the fight around, or Kirkland might tire from pounding on him. But you could just tell that Kirkland was very poised, relaxed, and in control. Kirkland's punches were just so heavy. It has been a long time since I saw a guy's jab alone jolting his opponent's head back like he did to Angulo. One thing you have to give Kirkland, regardless of defense or chin; the dude has a serious punch and he's just plain tough. Fight was just a war, as predicted. Fight of the year candidate.

I had the same wonder, but, my guess is that the 24/7 narration was HBO hedging their bets, in case Kirkland won, at the expense of Nacho's reputation. I don't like the idea of them ripping on Beristain, full-time, on any future 24/7 series.

 

Angulo just absorbed a ferocious career ender right there! He was still staggering and swaying after the fight while talking to his corner. Hopefully he dosn't suffer from and neurological damage.
