yes they were biased. enough to where it was obvious. lampley was the worst and most insufferable of the bunch. i understand the business side that tells them they have to promote the company product but its a fine line and as a commentator, lamply fell off.
It's disgusting is what it is. I have no doubt Sammy is gonna get dissed every chance HBO gets when that big Vitlay comes back to the limelight. Infact I'm gonna watch it with the sound off. Only way.
As usual, Lamps was the worst. And then he goes maudlin on us as they are about to roll the credits. Very odd stuff. My guess is that Lamps' cancer stricken colleague a) would have been objective and professional enough not to run memorial service like clips of a fighter who isn't dead and b) might have watched this fight to lift himself for a moment out of his physical ailments, in which case seeing his pal Jim bawling probably killed his buzz. In any case, definitely one of the more oddball moments I've seen recently in sports broadcasting.
Sorry for saying telling shots -- what other word could I say? Harder shots? Is that better? They weren't just stating the obvious. You know why? Because Steward stated early in the fight that he does not believe that Cotto could keep up this pace of boxing on the backfoot, that is using his legs so much considering the pressure of AM. That wasn't obvious, it was something that was yet to be seen. Perhaps I don't quite know what you mean by bias? When you say that I feel that you are saying that HBO commentators what nuthugging Cotto. This they were not doing. Yeah they said Cotto was winning the fight. But the fight was that way that one could see it in that likeness. But at times they go against their fighters, like they have with Roy Jones jr, B-Hop, Mayweather and some others. And I believe your judgments are quite bias. Cotto didn't land one big countershot he landed combinations off the ropes and in the center of the ring. AM's punches until the 7th round, although had its effect cotto partially blocked them and did not absorb the full force of them. Either he partially blocked them or he moved his head just enough to not get hit by the full power of it, or else in my opinion he would've got stopped sooner. When he started to get hit by the full power of those shots more fruequently as he tired from the constant moving by virtue of the pressure of AM he got hurt. The thing they missed was the fact that margo when he began to throw a little jab, he was able to better set things up in round 7.
No. The TRUTH is that Cotto was slipping shots beautifully until the middle of the fight. Don't let your nuthugging obscure your eyesight. What I saw is exactly what they were saying. Cotto was landing much better shots and avoiding Marg's shots, but it was obvious that Marg's pressure was bothering him more and more as the fight went on, and it didn't look like Cotto could take it all night. Exactly what HBO was saying. Give them credit when they actually do a good job and maybe we'll see more of it.
I don't think that there in fight commentating was too off. I saw the fight the sameway they did. And they were pretty honest about how Cotto was dealing with the pressure and the momentum of the fight. But it was their mood that gave away who they had their heart set on winning. And that stupid montauge at the end of the telecast...man if you were happy as hell margo won I bet that must have killed the mood.
This getting to be like child's play, using other peoples own words against them. "Cotto was landing much better shots and avoiding Marg's shots, but it was obvious that Marg's pressure was bothering him more and more" If he was avoiding Marg's shots, then why was the pressure bothering him? If he was avoiding his shots, then it would have been ineffective aggression, but as we can see it was not ineffective. Want to know why? Because he was landing shots dip****!!! Jesus Christ, how do you think Cotto ended up looking like that! HBO only wanted to comment on the pretty one or two punch head snapping combos of Cotto and not the dirty, inside work that Margo was getting done. The type of work that wins fights, like throwing punches at the shoulder, chest, etc. While he was doing this he was also landing to the body and also to the side of the head. It just wasn't as obvious as Cotto's but in the end it was more effective.
it was the 2nd, i noticed it too...in fact Cotto was bothered by 2 different body shots and hbo didnt say anything
go over the the rd by rd thread some of the idiots there were fooled by hbo commentary there were quite a few 8-2, 7-3 for Cotto scorecards before the stoppage.
Margo was clearly up after 10 rounds. I had him sweeping 6-10. Even if that wasn't the case, it was at the very least even.
I now hate Jim Lampley considering every word out of his mouth referred to how well Cotto was doing EVEN WHEN HE GOT HURT WITH A BODY shot early in the fight which Lampley never mentioned. Lets face it, he's a fat faced grey haired Biased old fart that needs to be exhiled as a commentator. Even I could see Cotto was being broken down BIGTIME.
I can't believe you're just now noticing this. They use to do this to Floyd and even during the post fight interviews Merchant was still taking shots at him. Usually the best way to watch these fights is on mute.
Fact: Marg wasn't landing many of his shots until he had Cotto broken down some in the mid to late rounds. Fact: Cotto was teeing off on marg like he was a bobblehead doll, but Marg is either superman or on PCP and it didn't affect him one bit. Fact: Pressure kills, and if you can't keep a man off of you, he's going to get to you eventually throwing 130 punches a round. Don't blame HBO because you're a blind man.
