Of course this isn't all because of the state of boxing, the economy takes his share too.

But the lack of top fights, network bull, PPV for most decent fights and defensive/boring styles, clearly takes it's toll.

Boxing is a product, if HBO can't provide it someone else will.

Corruption and the best avoiding each other is what made boxing decline and it may be too late to fix it.

There are multiple factors at work here. First the cable companies are bleeding subscribers. In one fiscal quarter last year 350,000 subscribers left cable altogether. And this is a downward trend that is not losing steam.

There is also more competition for the mid level marquee fights from companies like CBS, NBC, AWE, Spike, etc. This hurts HBO as being worth the additional cost to subscribers looking to HBO as the go to channel for boxing. Plus Showtime has done a bit better with their boxing offerings. I cut HBO from my cable package but kept Showtime.

Another factor is the Klitschko era of the heavyweight division which was the premier division for drawing viewers especially the critical casual boxing fan base. The heavyweight division was perceived as weak and Klitschko's fights were not exactly thrillers.

That is the elephant in the room.

It becomes a vicious cycle- lower ratings lead to a reduced budget, a reduced budget means it's harder to make top fights on regular HBO, and that in turn leads to lower ratings again. It ain't pretty.

I don't see that many future PPV stars at HBO. I talking about guys who will do consistent PPV number buys in the high 7 digits isn't coming along any time soon! :think

Don't be mean. Farmboxer has been thru hell recently. Be thankful your in good health and continue to be. Because things can change quickly for any of us. Its only a MRI away from a possible death sentence. Have some heart man!

Supposedly Showtime's budget is about 30 million too; so while HBO's budget has shrunk to 30 percent of what it was 16 years ago Showtime has been picking up some of the slack.

SHO has been slowly increasing it´s budget.
:think Would HBO benefit from FNF style shows?
They have benefitted from low cost shows before. Rosado - Lemieux averaged 1m homes but the entire card cost about 500k $

Right now they have only five cards scheduled, two being PPV´s. :dead

Go full swing on the Boxing After Dark series. Put up good triple headers with lower level guys. Guys that come cheap but put up good fights.
