I forgot if it was kellerman or lamps who said it. Someone really needs to sit these guys down and tell them to stop. I understand you have to hype certain guys but at least try to make is sound believable.

Yeah seriously that's ridiculous. This guy couldn't carry 39 year old Oscar's jockstrap.

The question is does 80% of their audience believe what they are saying or not? I don't, but I know better.

HBO hypes their guys, but they also have some great ones. Its too early to hype Mungia and compare him to a hall of fame guy.

You clearly took the comment out of context.

Friggen Smith hit him with everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink. If Munguia wasn't cruiserweight he doesn't make it to the final bell.

i would be interested in the context, which is everything. the 19yo got his first taste of competition at the top of the world and did ok, gym time will make him much better, he is only now figuring out what he can and cant do. he is not fast, but he is not as slow as his wind ups suggest, he can definitely punch fast enough to catch anybody. he has fight changing power, but needs someone to teach him how to properly deliver it and when. no problems with the gas tank and its brand new. dedication, focus and self awareness all seem to be there, so hes clear on what his next step is, at all times. i expect to see him in some very big fights in a couple years.

What he looked like was the second coming of Fernando Vargas.

Personally, I wasn't expecting much from that card. It seemed shameful by HBO standards. This was maybe a Boxeo Azteca level card at best with high end domestic level to bottom world level fighters across the board. Trying to call Munguia the new p4p prospect or whatever was ridiculous. However, he did manage to have an entertaining fight. I'll give him that. He's strong and aggressive like Fernando Vargas was.

HBO just doesn't have the roster to be the #1 boxing channel anymore. With Pacquiao, Lomachenko, and Crawford's exodus to ESPN all they have left is Golovkin, Canelo, and Kovalev.

I didn't see the broadcast but was told they did their usual crickets when the house guys opponent lands anything in this case Smith

I grew up on HBO boxing but many times I get so frustrated by the hyperbole

the over use of pound for pound

the over relying on punch stat

lederman explaining a bad card for the house fighter misrepresenting the meaning of ring generalship

I know merchant wasn't the most loved but he didn't just ass kiss and hero worship the house fighters

As someone mentioned earlier, the quote was clearly taken out of context. The announcer pointed out that Mungia bouncing on his toes was reminiscent of DLH, but I don't think it went any further than that.

As wide open that Munguia is, he would last 3 rounds max with Hearns in a 154 lb Championship fight.
