Yup, after Chris John pulled out, HBO had secured Mario Santiago as a replacement, but Rocky turned him down, saying he wasn't willing to face a southpaw on short notice. Only fight HBO airs tonight is the main event.

Right Rocky said that he wouldn't take on a southpaw on short notice. Santiago vs Rocky would've been pretty good.

There had been rumblings of bringing Lara to Cali to have his fight there but that seems to have gone by the way side.

You should check it out, It figures to be a real slugfest.

Also if you got some friends, you can split the price and watch the top Rank PPV with some booze.

I actually agree with Dan Rafael about Juarez making a mistake. There aren't that many fights out there for him that will make it to HBO. He's lost every time he's stepped up (the John fight should be included), and this is his last chance. I don't see anyone being all that excited at the prospect of televising him again. The main reason he made the first card is because it was in Houston for Juan Diaz.

I absolutely agree. If it was me I would've taken it. That said I guess if this WAS his last chance, He wants it for a title against a really good fighter. Santiago is a nasty spoiler specifically with a guy like Juarez, making it all the more difficult for him.

I heard GBP even offered him a bigger pay day.

Juarez really should have taken the fight. With him losing every time he has stepped up, he really needs to make an impression that he is a champion caliber fighter. HBO planned the event around that fight, pulling out because the guy is southpaw may seem valid, but if he was truly committed to being a champ and an HBO fighter, he should have taken the fight.

I think he made a smart boxing decision. Fighting a southpaw on short notice would have thrown him off. But as a business decision that is really poor.

He might have been better off taking the fight and losing in a real entertaining scrap than not fighting at all. Juarez is not going to be in anyones good graces.

I think that's a perfect way to put it MexJew. Good boxing decision, poor financial decision.
