HBO commentary: a comedy. Can the entire crew - pretty please?

I could talk all day long about the biased pro-HBO/homegrown fighter commentary, the lack of objectivity or the manipulated compubox stats (think Alexander-Kotelnik or Mosley-Mora for that), but by now I think pretty much everybody agrees that the HBO crew went downhill fast this year and something needs to be done. So how about simply throwing out a few lines of this Saturday of the comedy Lampley, Merchant and Steward put on. Off the top of my head, not exact quotes.

Showing LW titleholders, Larry says something like "Miguel Vazzzzqqqvvvez ... whoever that might be" - the once A-level writer and long-time commentator of the biggest boxing network on the planet doesn't know the guy who schooled Amir Khan conqueror Breidis Prescott and ESPN regular Ji Hoon Kim - vodkabreath doesn't follow the sport anymore?

Larry later: "great to have 1st round knockouts just like last week with Martinez" - more vodka, Larry?

Manny: "Katsidis is forced to fight up close because he's being picked apart at distance" - that's the ****ing way Katsidis fights Manny!

Larry after saying he had Pac winning both JMM fights: "judges tend to give rounds to fighters who get up from knockdowns" seriouly? JMM clearly won at least 6 rounds in both fights, maybe vodka made ol'Merchant delusional but we can still score a fight properly

Lampley: "Barrera is retired, Morales is fighting at a higher weight class" - dear Jim, MAB has already returned, fought Khan and is fighing under Top Rank, looking to fight Soto on HBO - not following the sport much?

Katsidis landing crisp bombs, Lampley: "Marquez landed a lot of body shots in this round." Superb exchange in R7 .............. all 3 commentators stay completely silent

Steward: "I didn't see the trainers putting ice on Katsidis' swelling over his right eye" Lampley: the cutman is Nonito Donaire Sr. (at that point you'd expect at least one to recognize the father of top P4P-er and shortly HBO debuting boxer of the same ****ing name, but Steward: "Maybe he did, but I didn't see it"

Merchant: "I've seen JMM knocked down 6 times, once vs. Barrera that wasn't counted, 4 times vs. Pacquiao and once here" what about the Mayweather fight last year YOU commentated dummy? Absolut vodka?

R9: wicked, huge left uppercut landed by Marquez, commentators: "Katsidis is getting tired"

There were many more but you know what I'm talking about. Pure comedy, the shape these over the hill commentators are is similar to shot fat journeymen who stayed in the sport for too long, clear signs of brain damage. Can we get rid of every single HBO commentator plus Lederman & the compubox, maybe except Bob Papa, the only one to realize last week that 1) Martinez was winning and Williams wasn't fighting the perfect fight, and 2) Maravilla actually landed - and humans only have two ****ing hands - no, not the right, but the other hand to produce the KO. And you're wondering why boxing has little credibility?

In the second round where Martinez again pastes Williams with a haye-maker of a left-hand, Kellerman says "Williams is beginning to land the harder shots".

This, amongst other things in 2010....

[...atrocious commentary in the Pavlik-Martinez bout, complete disregard of the winner in the Jacobs-Pirog upset, as well as the unlucky Kotelnik when he got the better of Alexander...]

....has been a poor year for HBO.

I hate all of them too. Actually i don't mind Kellerman(you can tell he has issues with his "script" sometimes) but the rest, awful. I don't like Manny Steward's commentary much either.

They're just so blatantly full of it sometimes. And they were dicks to Katsidis and Litzau on saturday.

It certainly doesn't help boxing's cause when the "premiere" announcers in the sport don't seem to give a **** to get their facts straight and are so blatantly biased.

Agreed, they were ****ing shocking, especially Merchant. He's just a parody of a good commentator now.

Kellerman is the only one who should stay.

I give the advantage to the Showtime crew if comparing them.

They owned HBO in 2010. Also, everyone involved with this incident should be fired: Kellerman: "and here are you (getting knocked the **** out)" - replay of KO, shock on Williams' face as he watches himself crashing to the floor face first, eyes open "thank you Paul, goodbye"

Kellerman must go too. He's just a kid who lets his emotions take over, he compared Williams before to every top ATG when Paul clearly showed what he's capable and not capable of. Absolutely ridiculous lines over and over again from these idiots. I swear I laughed at some of the lines when I rewatched yesterdays WAR in their version.

Yeah, but the Showtime commentary of the Ward fight was as biased as any HBO broadcast. The HBO team is so painfully, obviously slanted towards the HBO fighter it goes beyond laughable. And for Merchant to bring up Katsidis' brother just to get the guy to cry was reprehensible. How about at least congratulating Katsidis on having fought his ass off against one of the greatest fighters of the last 20 years? Merchant needs to be put out to pasture, as do Steward and Lampley.

You have a good point. Sometimes the rest of the HBO team pisses me off so much I actually forgive Kellerman's own lesser ridiculousness. I think the team needs a rehaul in attitude- but they need to stop letting their bias show because the fans ****ing hate it.

also more Roy Jones Jr. instead of emmanuel steward.

Ive been saying this for a while BB, they're horrible, especially since they added Kellerman to the mix and Steward. hows that for Kellerman to ask Paul What happened and to add insult to injury "in case you didnt remember since you were out cold with your nose kissing the canvas, tongue sticking out, and eye wide open".... in other words in case you want to see what you look like dead face first "here you are"

WTF? I didn't even catch that, turned it off after the 12th. That's just messed up. Sick greedy people at HBO, they just love turning tears into dollars, also to show close-ups of the family of the fighters getting beat up and stuff. Messed up.

It was the worst, Merchant basically made Kats cry and then cut him off. Makes me want to watch HBO on mute.

They are not even worth mentioning. ****em and it's sad that they try to sway oppinions and tell people exactly what they are witnessing when watching a fight.

They need to bring back Jones Jr. He did a hell of a job last time on the Cotto-Foreman card. I think he does excellent work for the most part plus he has that credibility of actually having boxed at the highest level and being a former world champion.
