Wasn't Lampley crying after Bhop beat Pascal? At least he's passionate about the sport. Merchant is just a bitter old man who thinks that anything other than a slugfest is boring. Steward is great although sometimes he can be kind of off, I noticed especially in Martinez v Williams II, he gave round 1 to Williams when it was plain as day Martinez was landing bombs with his left hand. Kellerman is great also, he's young, knowledgeable and he tends to see it how us fans see it. He has absolutely no problem with slating something he sees is wrong such as the Williams Lara decision and he's always slagging off the ABC belts while telling us Maravilla is the real king. But as I've been saying for a while now Showtime is much better, Al Bernstein is amazing.
Lampley and Merchant have never fought in a ring, and are pretty old school. Merchant has only been watching boxing, seriously, as a pundit since the 1970s-80s. Know that seems a long time, but not when you're about 90! They see boxing like your average fan does. A brawl.
Personally, I think Merchant definitely has a limited time left. He's not only not that knowledgable (seriously, don't buy the hype - he was an NFL guy right up until about his 60th birthday.................) but he's divisive and boring. I turn the TV over every time he interviews certain guys. It's embarrasing
Lampley can be okay at times but sometimes his punch calls are horrendous. He said a left hand landed by Ortiz which puzzled me because I didn't see it. On second viewing I watched it in slow-motion and Ortiz missed Mayweather by a good foot or so and I'm not exaggerating.
If they'd let the analysts(Manny, Roy, or Kellerman) do all the talking, their broadcasts would be much better.
Mediocre Bob Papa is better than drunk Jim "Mr BANG BANG BOOM" Lampley. Plus Roy and Max are superior by leagues over Merchant and Steward
