HBO crew a bit overdramatic with the hysteria in the paul williams fight?

just rewatched the fight, and I dont think paul looked good. I understand the concerns coming off that brutal KO but lara didn't land nearly enough to warrant the extreme panic echoed by kellerman, jones, and papa. In all honesty paul always gets tagged & his cut was def caused by a headbutt. He just lost a fairly close fight, he wasn't on the verge of death.

He had a long layoff, and was probably trying to answer some questions/apprehension he had about himself considering recent events. His chin did hold and I think he might look sharper in his next fight. I would like to see him fight cintron again while lara rematches molina.

In fact I thought the first 7 rounds were pretty damn competitive with williams winning much more than I had originally thought (atleast 4-7) and paul did some damn good body work throughout.

If you ignore the commentary you might just see a closer fight, Lara landed the cleaner, harder, eye catching shots especially down the stretch but not enough of them to warrant the commentary we heard on sat. The fight looked a bit like a bootleg martinez vs williams 1 (less intensity)

PS Paul has got to learn how to block that left with or without a new trainer or he should of hung em up 8 months ago.

Whenever there is thought to be a robbery in a fight, I re-watch the fight with the sound off.

It makes all the difference in the world.

I'm not saying that Paul Williams won, but it wasn't a total crime like the HBO staff made it sound.

Also, (man I hate stirring up a hornet's nest) watch Klitschko v. Haye again WITH THE SOUND OFF. Haye still lost, but I don't think he was "dominated" like the HBO crew made it sound like he was.

They were, but someone had to bring it up since Paul has a dumbass trainer. It's becoming a normal occurence for Paul to look like a bus hit his face in every fight. A top fighter getting hit by every power punch that his opponent throws is just embarrassing for them.

I have no problems if that's how they want to fight, but someone has to look out for his well being because fighters have been permenantly hurt before.

There was no "domination" whatsoever in the Haye-Klitschko err "fight" I'm hardpressed to even call it that

more like a chess match, bobbi fischer vs that russian guy had more action

HBO commentators did dramatized a bit the situation but that is what usually happen when the overwhelming favorite fighter don't live up to their expectations. In this departement, british commentators are much worse; just watch the british broadcast of Pacquiao/Mosley, it was really poor commentating.

Watching Williams/Lara without the sound will misjudge you because you can't distinguish the crispier landed puches.

Williams clearly lost the fight, just stop all the excuses.

Both fights were 10 rounds to 2 for Lara and Klitchko...

The HBO commentating was ridiculous yes, but clear dominate UD's for Lara and Klitschko...

Williams should shot himself while laying the bathtub...

Robberies have no place in the sport. People with a strong voice need to speak up in an extreme way in order for there to be movement which will hopefully wake up the powers that be. HBO has seen its number of robberies. When it's the 3rd or 4th time that your house has been robbed, wouldn't you go a little crazy too? You couple that with the fact that a hard working young man in Lara who put his life on the line and had his reward stolen from him in the biggest fight of his career, and you have one hell of a **** storm. HBO felt Lara's pain, especially Roy who can relate. I actually wanted him to confront the judges to give them a piece of his mind. HBO's statements are very justified. It's not a pie eating contest. Someone endured both physical and mental pain. His record is now blemished, not by a true loss but by corruption. To add insult to injury Paul had the nerve to lie and say on national television that he "won."

The thing that sticks out about Paul and his supporters is the fact that throughout the process they give very little credit to Lara and show no compassion whatsoever. Paul doesn't even appear to show desire in giving Lara a rematch. People who side with Paul seem to focus solely on defending him. If you think Lara won a "competitive" fight then lobby for a rematch or recognize Lara as a truly undefeated fighter who just passed a stern test. Stop giving Paul so much attention. He's been unimpressive in his last 3 fights.

the outcry against the robbery didnt bother me as much as them asking williams trainer mid-fight if he was gonna hang em up in between rounds and all the hoopla about how much danger paul was in and this and that.

There will always be robberies in boxing b/c of corruption and the subjective nature of the sport

the good thing about it is if you impress there will be a demand for you to be seen again and you will always get more opportunities No question Lara definitely did that and he'll be back on TV soon, and btw didnt he just get a dodgy decision over Molina?

The outcry after the fight was justified, however they were clearly showing bias towards Lara ( who did in fact get screwed).

Paul Williams can't fight southpaws that's why he gets hit with the left he drops his right hand to try and check hook is opponent with is easy to do with an orthodox fighter because it is the jab u are coming over but with a southpaw u drop that right hand to hook and it opens u right up for the left hand. His face has never been busted up when he fought an orthodox fighter
PS his body work in the Lara fight was no given enough credit by the HBO crew
