I think a lot of fans go by how the HBO Crew sees the fight, Lampley, Merchant, Stewart etc, sometimes you think a fighter is not winning the fight but when you hear what those guys say you seem to star feeling that way even if you are seeing different. I always listen carefully to what they say, cause they are good, but I always stay with my first impression of who i think won regardless of what they comment. But I mean some of my non boxing fight friends sometimes watch fights with me and they always tell me the same thing when i disagree with a decicion "Men you are crazy... didnt you hear what those people were saying". HBO crew predictions are worthless, they mostly get it wrong I almost never agree with Lederman for some reason. -Roy Jones is pretty good when he works with them, always makes good point But appart from all this, YOU GOTTA LOVE THE HBO CREW ! NO OTHER SPORT CREW COMES CLOSE.
You can pretty much say this about any Broadcasting Crew in the business. HBO has the classiest guys, and appear to me be the most impartial of any boxing crew going (not completely impartial, mind you, just the most). Only Harold Lederman drives me bananas from time to time.
Love them - but I also have to agree with you'll. It first happened to me during the Mosley/De la Hoya fight. Where they had everyone thinking that De la Hoya won the fight. Every since that fight - I started keeping my own score cards - now it doesn't make a difference what they say - cause I'm scoring the fight as it goes on. The HBO crew does sometimes lean more towards the HBO Fighters.
The HBO crew are okay except for Max Kellerman, who sounds like he's very biased against fighters from Europe and Britain - he usually comes across as having a strong dislike of them. Sometimes he does seem to be trying to change the way fans see a fight. I find Steward's, Merchant's and Lampley's comments are much more balanced, and I usually agree with Lederman's scorecard.
this is true for all networks. the other day i was watching on DonKingTV and the left earbud of my headset was not working properly. I managed to get the sounds of the fight (punches, ref, crowd, etc) without the voice of the commentator. It was much much better.
Harold Lederman is a joke. I only get a kick out of him when he gets over excited and makes those funny noises when he raises his voice. Max kellerman is a bigger joke. Him using his extra long vocabulary and jumping on bandwagons. I remember when PBF put him out there by blasting him about the fact that Kellerman has never boxed before and Kellerman rebutted by saying he box a little with his friends in his basement when he was a kid. He seems to look scared when he is interviewing some boxers. Mr. Lamply has class. I remember when I use to dislike him for jumping on Vlad bandwagon years ago. He stated that he is the greatest HW when then he got knocked out a couple of times. Mr. Lampley made a annoucement on HBO that he apologizes for hyping up a fighter without giving the fighter some time to prove himself. Now, that is class. Mr. Merchant vs Don King, priceless. RJJ and SRL were very good in the past.
