Unfortunately, the viewers for maidana lopez were 1/2 that of stevenson dawson. plus your math is incorrect. you cannot use 8 divided by 22.
most of Haymon's fighter are with GBP, so he's mainly on Showtime, but like mentioned, he has fighters with other promoters who can still fight on HBO. There was rumors that Broner was going to be a free agent and stay on HBO
From Showtime's perspective, that is the correct way to calculate it. 30-22=8 8/22= 36.3636% Required growth rate (the 36 at the end repeats forever) To check: (22*36.3636%) + 22= 30 Of course, from HBO's perspective, it's different. But that's how much Showtime must grow to reach them. It's the same as when you lose 50% of your investment, you need a 100% return to get back to the same level.
22/30 = 73.33% of HBO's suscriber base. 471/1024 = 46% so for every 22 showtime suscribers there are 30 hbo suscribers. for every 471 shobox viewers there were 1024 hbobox viewers. in a sense showtime boxing underperformed that night. several factors have to be considered. there are more suscribers that get HBO purely for boxing (this should heighten hbo numbers). Another factor to consider is how much money they paid in return. I believe both events were around equal. Last factor on top of my head is expectations going in and compared to what they were getting before. dawson's fight was not expected to get high ratings but surpassed the hbo mendoza line of 1 mil. ALl in all, Showtime cannot be happy with its return a lot of times. That mega event at the barclays last year costed them 4 mil and they still didn't get awesome ratings.
I would beg to differ. Most people on this website ( I would consider more hardcore) would say that showtime had better fights and better commentating. HBO is probably the better promoter. By now, they are a well oiled machine. The fact of matter is, brand recognition is key. Larger part of the people who suscribe to premium channels for boxing ...are currently with HBO. HBO has been linked with boxing forever. Showtime's strategy has been to dump the MMA and focus on boxing. Their strategy has been to establish itself as the superior brand. THis investment can incurr at a loss even. At least, I'm sure executives will argue this. But boxing on premium tv serves two ends. Its the equivalent of a show/series. The cost for game of thrones is a lot...probably much more so than the boxing. However, boxing is somewhat self sustaining through ppv revenue as well and gets a key demographic. Its relatively cheap for what it brings it. FOr figthers and promoters, it may choke the sport by not being mainstream but its a more steady secure form of revenue.
Over 1.5 million people watched boxing on Saturday night. Both venues were packed. This is great news for boxing. We should be happy.
HBO has been mortally wounded by Showtime and it's now a matter of time before they succumb. Linger long but die you must.
HBO has more subscribers. Not surprising at all. This is not related to boxing either, HBO just has some really good series that they produce: Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire to name my favorites. Most people that I know, get HBO when they choose between providers if they aren't getting the entire premium package.
it's no secret that hbo has more subscribers than showtime. it's also no secret that hbo has sucked balls for a while now. showtime is where it's at. i feel bad for all those hbo subscribers that missed out on that great card last weekend. showtimes kicking ass and will get more subscribers as a result of the great cards they're putting on. it's only a matter of time before showtime surpasses hbo. i can't see hbo NOT sucking anytime soon so long as jim lampley is still at the wheel with the commentary.
HBO is betting one thing, that is that Showtime spread itself too thin with the Golden Boy (especially Floyd deal) to where they will not make enough money to recoup, be at a loss and fold. Where after that Golden Boy will be up for the grabs, but because Showtime will have been bled, they will not have the money to leverage in negotiations. HBO will be the only player in the game dictating the terms of the contacts.... The advantage HBO has over Showtime, is that over the years they have shown the Golden Boy and Floyd fights on their network, so they had a past track record, on how they performed traditionally. Knowing damn well Showtime would lose money, they said they rather not deal with Golden Boy anymore. ****ing genius in my opinion, Yeah right now Showtime has Floyd and Haymon, and Golden Boy, but in the long run Showtime can't keep going...Remember Saturday that was an amazing card, if anything that card should have trumped the HBO one and did not. That is not a good sign...... Showtime will bleed, then fold on this deal, from there where does Golden Boy go??? They're not alot of choices as far as Networks.... The Showtime deal was **** for Showtime, they rolled the dice, and now they are screwed. Golden Boy will come back to daddy it is inevitable. :deal
More PPL suscribe to HBO over Showtime, it's just a Bigger Channel, but Showtimes fights were way better.
