if it was an american baseball player who none of us new **** all about i would still take the same stance. maybe its a cultural thing but in britain the silence to mark the death of sportsman is always respected. i agree that national anthems should not be booed but some on here seem to think that 2 wrongs make a right.
Also, **** national anthems, you have my permission to boo God Save the Queen all you want, I wont take it personally. **** her, the queen can suck my piles. The national anthem doesn't represent me, I didn't ask for it to get in the ****ing way of a boxing match, they should leave all this nationalist patriotic jingoistic **** out of sport and just enjoy it for what it is. That goes for flags, currency, anthems and all that other manufacture bull**** were supposed to respect. I'll boo any ****ing anthem I want, I have exactly the same right to boo an anthem as you have to stand to it, and if you dont want that sort of political divisiveness to be involved in sports (which I dont btw) then you can save us all the bother and stop ****ing having these tedious drawn out outdated bull**** anthems before fights.
This is all due to HBO not really having overly control of any of either fighters. This was the frank warren show all the way and I bet you that on Sky TV, the announcers knew about it, was in the script, and had silence for it. Anyone watch the event on Sky TV that can verify this?
honestly i think they had no idea wtf was going on. Lampley and Kellerman aren't the 2 brightest lights. Lampley was probably drunk
My god has HBO gone down hill with Kellerman. The best expert commentator they ever had was Gil Clancy. Merchant and Lampley have been there forever. Clancy and Merchant probably had a bottle of scotch every for every fight, they were entertaining.
I don't think it was intentional. HBO have a strict time limit to everything, and because of that, they were prbably unaware of the ten bell salute. He only died a few days ago, and by that time HBO would have laid everything out. I doubt they were even told, anyway. On the booing of the anthems, almost every country does it so it's not a problem.
It was actually Setanta who were showing it in the UK and I can't comment on what they did as I was having my pre fight ritual(taking a **** before the fight so I make sure I don't have to go during it) .
I agree, but we should stop booing national anthems. There's lots of good things about football crowds but this isn't one of them.
Not respecting a national anthem and not respecting the 10 second silence for a dead person are both deplorable attitudes. Period.
Do you stand up in your God damn living room when the anthem comes on?**** off and get a life.I,like many others where drinking a pint or taking a pre fight **** when the Dudes 10 count came on.**** happens, get on with the fight.:good
No, blindly baying out your allegience to a feudal relic queen like a herd of mindless sheep then castigating those who dont agree with you is a deplorable attitude. If you wanna salute the flag and if you get an erection every time the band strikes up god save the queen thats your psychological problem, I on the other hand will boo and boo loudly. I think that people booing national anthems at sporting events is wonderful, there is nothing finer than seeing the working classes revel in the absurdity of these stupid outdated bourgeosis relics and conventions and giving them the level of respect they truly deserve ie NONE. Booing silences is somewhat different, but dont expect me to stand there and pay respects to a guy I've never heard of. If someone I respect dies I'll mourn in my own way and in my own time thank you very ****ing much.
