I saw that Dan Rafael stated in the ESPN chat that Ross Greenberg e-mailed him to announce that HBO would not pony up for the Klitschko-Chagaev fight.

That is after they passed on an agreed to Adamek vs Johnson demolition derby.

This is another stupid move in a long list of stupid moves by HBO, IMO. By feeding us mismatches with obvious winners and passing on real fights they are beginning to kill the sport.

HBO are just terrible atm. They'll put on Lopez and Berto with anyone but the TRUE mouth watering matups go under their radar.

Agreed. (although Chaegav Wlad will be a snoozer)

Basically this is something you wanna see if you like to look at two guys with their shirts off, cuz it won't be no fight.

Maybe the women's channel will show it.

You preferred his coin-toss of a bout with Hasbeen Rahman I take it?

If beating the #3 Heavyweight in the world is a mismatch, then you might as well not air any Wlad fights at all.

It's simple: the fight has no money value whatsoever.

There is no excitement value in it at all. I for one would not pay a dime to see it live or on PPV.....so why should HBO make a huge financial loss for it?

    Who cares about HBO?

The fight will be on Showtime or ESPN.

Styles make fights, and Chageav (lets amuse I agree he's the third best heavy) does not have the style to even be competitive. He does have the style, when combined with Wlad's style to make a boring fight. TV is in the business of entertaining people. HBO does not care about boxing HIStory or whatever. They care about getting viewers. I hate to be the one to tell you guys this, but most people don't give a crap about the heavyweight boxing champion anymore. Most of that is because of boring fighters and boring fights like this one has the makings of.

You think those networks are eager to make a financial loss aswell?
HBO isn't the only network that recognizes no money value in the fight. Would you pay a dime out your pocket to see this fight? Networks make fights that people want to pay for. None of these guys are PPV attractions...in fact they both have a horrible reputation in terms of excitement and giving people value for their money.

agree with you, but i can understand it, they're preparing for this shitty pbf - jmm fight... sad, but still - wlad is boring, chagaev maybe a bit unknown. better fight imo would be rjj - adamek and i still don't get it why they ****ed it up...

According to Steve Kim HBO's Boxing budget is already running thin, and we're only half way through the year. If this is true, then I'd much rather HBO use their funds for a fight (or fights) more interesting than Klitschko-Chagaev.
