HBO dumps Klitschkos [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=+1][/SIZE][/FONT] HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg has again ripped the Klitschko brothers. IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs) and WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs) have both have previously fought on the network numerous times and routinely fill huge soccer stadiums when they fight, but Greenburg says there is no longer any interest in them from HBO. Im really souring on the heavyweights, Greenburg was quoted as saying strangely on ESPNs website, rather than that of his own network. There doesnt seem to be any interest in the U.S. and there doesnt seem to be any heavyweights besides David Haye who would have any juice in challenging the Klitschkos. Were out of the heavyweight division. Were not playing in that sandbox right now. It doesnt make any sense for us. The fights happen over there [in Europe], theyre on tape delay. There is just very little interest in this country. Greenburg added that HBO definitely will not televise Wladimir Klitschko against unbeaten Teddy Atlas-trained Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (19-0, 14 KOs), nor Vitali Klitschkos next fight unless the opponent is David Haye or Tomasz Adamek. Previously Greenburg had famously stated that the American public cant tell which brother is which.
so because we got 2 heavyweights that are clearly better then anyone out there they dump them? ok haye might be the only one that presents a challenge but they still havent signed him to fight... personally yes klitschkos can be boring but i think its more how dominant they are why change anything?
I don't blame them. Unfortunately they only consider the America's as their core audience, & to them, the Klits have about as much charisma as a Preying Mantis. Shame, but that's business.
Nobody dislikes them more than I do, but I still thought HBO would want some controlling interest in the Heavy division. No doubt once Haye v Klits gets made, they'll be back in.
