I am trying to be reasonable here, it seems that Adonis does have a strong case to go to Showtime, as the deal in Showtime is much better...assuming Hopkins wins and fights him

What happened to HBO :? Did they get old overnight :huh or is it a case of Showtime pumping more juice into the boxing budget :think

Dude, there's nothing wrong with HBO's purse. It's Adonis'
pu.ssy. It hurts and he wants haymon to rub it for him.

My opinion of Adonis Superbitch is clear, but why did this happen in the first place...They don't have anybody planning longterm strategy, instead of the simple 1990s one cash cow mindset :dead

Haymon is beating them to the punch, probably been stroking Adonis G spot for a while now...intimidating him about the risk of facing Kovalev while he is at it...Then shows him an alternative route...Superbitch goes for the money...Can't blame Adonis

HBO crew & mindset is all 1990s, times changed

HBO wanted the Kovalev/Stevenson fight, was planning on it, so Stevenson went to Showtime to avoid Kovalev.................I am so tired of the damned promoters/Networks no allowing fighting the fans want to see................after watching the prefabricated Wilder/Scott, I really believe boxing is going WWE.........

Could go the other way though, Showtime paying more to their fighters without having the income to support that pay could hurt them (hopefully not)

Showtime has a huge inferiority complex when it comes to being compared to HBO and are spending every last cent and then some just to compete. The problem is they can't compete and must borrow the monies provided by their parent company,CBS.
At some point the suits at CBS are going to say enough is enough and Espinosa and company are going to have to explain this craziness.:nut

Yeah, if this trend keeps up, HBO may have to bow out of the boxing business. Pac, Marquez, Cotto, and Martinez are nearing retirement, Donaire has lost his luster, Ward and Rigo are great but can't draw, Lomenchenko looked ordinary in his last fight, Chavez is rapidly losing popularity, and now Stevenson has departed and left them without their super-fight. That pretty much leaves them with GGG, Mikey Garcia, Kovalev, Provo, and the fading Chavez jr franchise with which to run their network . Things are looking bad for them unless Showtime collapses under its own weight.

    Great, you idiot.

Why do you want one network to control boxing? Are you dumb as hell or dumb as an idiot?

    Pick one.

"Dwindling paydays" if your looking for big money to face guys like Fonfara while backing out of unifications. HBO not allowing themselves to be played for fools is a good thing and Showtime doesn't have the money to keep overpaying all of Haymon's fighters it isn't a sustainable.

Showtime will lose in the end because they're paying more for a mismatch. That's why HBO wasn't willing to pay out the wazoo to air Stevenson vs Fonfara and an inevitable KO. . . .

Golovkin would at least double and Kovalev quadruple their purses with SHO/Mr Buttfingers.

Yet senile, crying Lampley makes $5M/year..

Glad to see there are some rational fans on here. HBO didn't match Showtime's deal. I would've loved to see Stevenson-Kovalev, but it is what it is. I can't blame Adonis for getting as much money as possible.

HBO has lost touch in my opinion. They constantly seem to be in search of the next Gatti-Ward, and their commentators are severely lacking in objectivity. They only want wars, and don't seem to have much respect or patience for boxers. What's more, the commentators almost always have an agenda going into a fight, so they oftentimes end up sounding stupid as they have to change their tune on-the-fly if the fight doesn't play out the way they had hoped.

I've been rooting against HBO ever since they said they won't do business with Golden Boy. That's their prerogative, but I blame them for the cold war. HBO and Showtime have switched positions from where they stood in terms of boxing ten years ago.

Lastly, I don't understand why so many boxing fans are against a monopoly. As long as we get the fights, who cares? I actually am in favor of a monopoly. If one company is holding all the chips, there will be no excuses for fights not to get made, and it would make tournaments much more possible. It could go either way, I think: very wrong, or very right.
