It's simple: either you ban professional boxing and only allow amateur bouts lasting 3-4 rounds, stopping the fight as soon as someone gets hit a little bit too much or flush by a strong punch, or you allow fighters to lose a wide decision if they're not getting hurt or damaged, like in the case of Hatton v. Malignaggi. Anything else is bullcrap.
Miserable from a quality fighting point of view. Deliberately trying to be a dick and take things out of context aren't going to win you any debate points. Paulie fought like **** and didn't belong in the same ring as Hatton that night.
So every time a fighter loses round after round the fight should be stopped even if he doesn't get hurt or damaged? Look at the last two rounds - Malignaggi was tagging Hatton more than Hatton was tagging Malignaggi at times. Why wasn't Hatton stopped on his feet by the referee? Because there was no need! Neither fighter was getting hurt at all!
No it is not Zakman. It is to protect the fighters by exercising his best judgement during the course of the bout and enforce the rules governing the bout. The sport is bigger then any one fight and the right decision was made by all concerned. LOL at all the keyboard warriors calling McGirt a whimp - whingeing and harkening back to the "good 'ol days" when quite clearly they have never boxed in their life. :deal
u said it.."life is fragile" now paulie has live with a loss that was all HIS fault...and a stoppage that should have NEVER happened....any fighter would have been bull**** AT that stoppage...he was not gonna win nor was he in life threatening danger BY ANY MEANS...let the guy finish..they are pro FIGHTERS
Yep - throw Zakman and Tyson2005 in the ring to show us what "real men" do. Should be highest rating PPV watching them bitchslap each other with their keyboards.
I have boxed and I am a trainer now and I would never allow a fighter to get hurt bad...zakman has no clue...but in this case PM was FAR from being permanently damaged...mcgirt wanted to be the center of attn...he should have stopped alot of his fighters fights ...why this one? LET HIM FINISH THE FIGHT
than maybe buddy should train his fighters better...he is disgusted so he can stop a fight...what about tarver...chambers...adamek...he let them go on without punching
It was the right decision and honestly Paulie was not going to win and he was taking a beating. He was throwing no punches just trying to survive to go to the distance. It's not wimpy is called protecting your fighter because you dont want your fighter seriously hurt. Paulie look like he could of gone the distance but he was absorbing too much punishment and god knows what could of happen in that round or later.
Actually I would say I am right on point. This thread = fanboys bitching about Lewis' and McGirt and beating their chests about how real men box.
Your out of your mind saying they should fire Lewis for saying that. First off for the health of the fighter I say he's totally right. Unless you want all fighters to end up like Joe Frasier, Ali and Meldrick Taylor. Second if anybody needs to get fired at HBO it's Lampley, he's the biggest nuthugger ever and it gets worse every year. I thought it would never get worse than his Jermain Taylor nuthugging during the two Hopkins fights and the Winky Wright fight but he took it to another level during Margarito vs. Cotto. I seemed like he was shocked that Cotto was getting beat and he almost tried to convince himself that Cotto was still winning talking about he was landing all the effective punches. I'm sorry but when one fighter is bleading out of the mouth and nose for haqlf the fight and spends the whole fight running and the other guy looks like he doesn't have a mark on him, I don't care how a punch looks It's tyhe results that make a punch effective. BTW I thought he was about to petition the judges to have Margorito DQ'd for hitting Cotto when he was down. I'm sorry but when a fighter just goes to one knee on his own the other fighter might not always realize right away they are on the canvas.
