I am a big supporter of freedom on speech issues, but some are simply teaching you to say the better things.

Not as spot on as he was when he said "he's lucky the referee stopped it, look at the state of his face, he was going to get knocked out in the next 2 rounds definately" :smoke

Exactly. All the modern boxing fans who salute refs and corners for stopping fights prematurely should read this post.

When I first started follow this sport 30 years ago, fans would, rightly, ***** to high heaven about premature stoppages. Now they ***** when fights are ALLOWED to go to the cards (Calzaghe-Lacy) comes to mind!:patsch

Want to see a CORRECT corner stoppage?? Eddie Futch's call to stop Ali-Frazier III in Manilla. Using the ridiculous standards that prevail among some boxing fans today, Futch should've stopped it long before that. Nutty.

a fighter should seem out on his feet for the ref to consider stopping it. and i dont think guys like jay nady are the right person for that.

sure gatti could have been stopped in round 10 against ward, same with cotto against torres in the second - nobody would have complained if either of those fights would have been stopped then - but look what a terrific fight came out of letting it go on.

it's truly a fine line sometimes.

Haye will KO him too, or make him quit, it'll be like the matrix in there.

And I appreciate that, but I don't appreciate being cursed at like a dog. I didn't attack anyone, if I hurt you're feelings, tough.

That WAS what McGirt said, yet Pauli still didn't do **** and refused to throw a meaningful punch or combination. McGirt did the right thing for his fighter.

The fact that you say this shows how you don't understand the concept.

Ali-Frazier was competitive for the first 13 rounds. Gatti/Ward was competitive even though both were brutal battles. No one here would've stopped either because they were COMPETITIVE. Pauli was not competitive, he had no puncher's chance, he was not throwing punches, he was just holding on and running. What's the point of seeing two more rounds of that anyway?
If Calzaghe/Lacy was stopped like it should've been, then Lacy could perhaps have had a decent career left, but it wasn't. He went the distance with his pride intact, but not his ability. And that's great for him, but i would rather live to fight another day. It's not like a complete career ruining shutout loss is anything worse than a corner stoppage on your record.

Add to this the boxers who have severe brain damage as a result of taking one too many punches during a fight

    McClelland
    Watson
    Ingle
    etc...

    So yes!
    Itwas the right decision
