He stunned Canelo with an uppercut, I guess he knew already.

Post the round and time stamp and lets observe how clean the punch landed and how stunned Canelo was.

    Round 9
    From 2:30 till 2:50
He landed all 3 punches clean, the left over the guard, the jab, and the uppercut.
Canelo looked pretty stunned to me, he was able to recover fairly quickly though.

The one with 2:26 left in the 9th? That didn't land with much force. Canelo slipped it by turning his head to the side. That uppercut really just grazed the side of Canelo's face. However it did set up the straight right that followed a moment later which landed better. That was a nice sequence by Golovkin, but, no, the uppercut itself didn't stun Canelo at all. (nor did the nice straight right that Gennady landed after though the straight right landed better right on the chin)

Canelo wasn't phased by any of those punches, but the counter left hook that Canelo countered with (with 2:24 left) stunned / rocked Golovkin and that was one of Canelo's best punches of the whole fight. Look how hurt Gennady was from that left hook. He started taking big breaths after that, and went into blocking mode to recover from it.

That 9th was a great round btw.

No man, Canelo was expecting a right hook, that's why he tried to roll with it, but it turned out to be an uppercut, that's why Canelo was stunned, he didn't expect the uppercut.
It didn't "graze" him, his glove didn't entirely hit Canelo, but he still hit him.
So he was stunned and kept going forward? Is he some kind of superhuman?
Don't delude yourself into thinking Golovkin was hurt by the left hook lol.
I think he went into "blocking mode" because he wanted an inside fight, and Canelo also threw a 6 punch combination. And after that combination was thrown, Canelo was the one who looked exhausted, not Golovkin.

He was surprised by it, and turned his head at the last second negating most of the punch's affect. Being surprised by a punch and being stunned by a punch are two different things. In a non-boxing context, stunned and surprised are quite similar, but when we're talking boxing, there's a difference.

It definitely hit him, it was a very minor "knock" though, as he did partly slip it and it did partly graze him. It partly hit him though too. It wasn't a solid landed punch by any means, and when were talking about a fighter being stunned by a punch, you'd expect the fighter to be shook from the force of the punch more than Canelo was there.

I'll agree that he was surprised by the punch and more importantly it setup the right hand, but Canelo wasn't exactly stunned by the punch. You can call it being stunned, but the punch didn't land with any real force. Why is this important? Because that glancing uppercut from Golovkin didn't land flush with the kind of force that Canelo's uppercuts in rounds 6-8 landed that truly stunned Golovkin. Lets put it this way, if you want to call that being stunned from an upper (when a fighter is turning his head away from it largely negating it's effect) then the uppercuts that landed on Golovkin in rounds 6-8 need to be described as something more than that. And the point I was making is that throughout the whole fight (unless you can find me a better example of an uppercut Gennady landed) Golovkin was not able to land the kind of clean, flush concussive uppercuts that Canelo was able to land on him.

He was pushed back from the force of that left hook on to his back foot and he had to reset. His facial expression and his gasping for air following that punch and looking on unsteady legs momentarily is evidence of being truly stunned. He rebalances himself throws a jab then leans forward head-to-head covering up while Canelo throws a combination.

He was more hurt by that left hook than Canelo was hurt by that uppercut. Look, the four punches from Golovkin in totality were good, but none of them landed as hard or flush as that counter left hook from Canelo.

True, throwing long combinations tires you out. Both fighters needed a breather after throwing their long combinations. And to your point, Golovkin landed a nice little hook with 2:09 left with Canelo on the ropes. (and another short hook with 1:59 left) Both men trade some jabs then Canelo backs Golovkin up with a left hook of his own off the ropes with 1:48 left) Then Canelo lands the huge right hand with 1:37 left.

But lets just be clear : The left hook with 2:24 left by Canelo and the huge right hand with 1:37 left by Canelo were better harder more concussive punches any of those punches that Golovkin landed. But Golovkin landed more (shall we say B level punches) than Canelo's (shall we say A level punches).

But back to what we were debating. How good of a punch was the uppercut from Golovkin with 2:26 on the clock. It wasn't that great of a punch by itself. It certainly wasn't as good as Canelo's uppers in round 6-8 since it didn't land flush. It was partly slipped but it was effective in that it got Canelo into position for the right hand that followed. Canelo came right back with two quick punches including the left hook that truly stunned Golovkin. So to say that uppercut stunned Canelo is a bit of a stretch to me, but I think it's sort of in that gray area and it was useful to revisit this sequence. I think if anything it just illustrates how hard it is to hit Canelo flush with uppercuts and it'll be interesting to see if Golovkin can land the kind of hard uppercut he landed on Vanes in a Canelo rematch. If he does I'll be impressed.

Golovkin landed a hard punch to the back of Martyrosian's head while he was down on the canvas.

The Braekhus fight was good. I had her winning close and wish I were paying full attention. Will need a rewatch.

And why was he down on the canvass? That's right, because GGG was in the process of knocking him the **** out, give your sleazy agenda pushing a rest. There was zero malice intended, clearly Vanes felt nothing but love for the guy that just KO'd him, why is it so hard for all of his haters? After all, its not like he knocked you the **** out.

Golovkin landed the last punch while in was already in motion, Vanes was out before he hit the canvas! Golovkin did nothing wrong, he has never been a dirty fighter.............he won fair and square........Looks as if Golovkin means business, he is hitting very hard, good combination!!! He will knock El Pollo out in the rematch..........
