I took my wife, a friend and his wife to an event a few years ago, the three of them stayed in the bar right up until the main event, I was sitting there on my own watching the fights, it's the last time I took my wife to an event because like you I don't understand how you can go to a sporting event and sit in the bar, you might as well go to a pub and watch it on TV.

On the plus side, I ended up talking to this old irish man sitting behind me who was there by himself, he was a wealth of boxing knowledge and a right joker, we had a good night.

I gave him my wife's seat next to me so I didn't have to keep turning around to talk to him and then made my wife sit behind me for the main event.
