First of all big props to Tony! I had him picked for this fight, and the man dun gud. Now, did anyone notice the air of sadness after the fight? (im not talkin about the whole cameraman with leukaemia thing). The fact that everyone apart from Emanuel Steward seemed gutted, and no one really gave Tony his props? OK it was difficult to watch Cotto getting beaten like that, but when he did the same thing to Zab, HBO were loving it. Instead we get slow motion replays of him gettin cracked, blood flyin everywhere, and his family crying. Cant help but feel that if the fight went exactly the same way but the other way round, HBO crew would be goin crazy and worshippin the new boxing God, instead of being depressed! :hi:
yo yo... i noticed the same thing, i was like dam.....ya'll wanted cotto to win to huh?......it was wild, you cant hide depression
I noticed that too...their sad because they are losing alot of money with Cotto's loss.... Cotto would have fought DLH in Dec. and the HBO guys would have been in line for a HUGE payday !
well cotto was the new boxing great. he was going to be worth the money, but now they've lost all the hype. But i think cotto can still be a mayjor force, i would like to see a re-match.
All i know was that Lampley at the end looked like he was about to cry. It has always been obvious to everybody that Lampley is biased as hell,...but he set a new standard yesterday as he was more biased than ever. I can only come to one conclusion: Lampley bet some serious bucks on Cotto and lost a major sum of $$$. You're right about Steward; he was the only objective commentator out there.
what pissed me off was how that it was seen as a moral victory. every time margo landed a combo they started talking about cotto's jab... lampley was biased as ever and max kellermans scorecarding sayign it was a cotto fight. it was an even fight. but dotn say that "i have cotto way infront" thats just petty. cotto just ran out of steam, and will be back for more later in the year. margo finally got his vindication that he is "the most feared man in boxing" (i think thats a marketing ploy but whtever he can now say that)
they get the same money no matter what dont they. they are not the business people behind hbo who make great bonuses
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl lol thats what i thought too but i originally thought it was for the cameraman who had lukemia.......... i wonder what steve bunce was saying over at sentanta sports
I didn't see the fight last night, but from the posts here it sounds similar to the HBO mood after the Hopkins/Trinidad fight. That was classic.
They probably felt Cotto was a better fighter to have in their HBO stable. Maybe it was the unbeaten record, or the fact that he was learning English...who knows? But Lampley and Kellerman were both clearing trying to talk Cotto to a victory. And they did look and act sad afterward, which is unfair. Because it wasn't just a night of defeat. There also was a winner, and they should have celebrated his performance a little more.
true hbo lost a bit of change over this. but never have you seen the commentators actually seem depressed that cotto lost, apart from steward (different being). no one would do that unless somthin else was in
up to this moment i still feel sad and sorry for cotto not only cause cotto is one of my favs, but also seeing his kid cry. brings me back to how i felt after tyson was ko'ed by lewis. hbo must feel about the same after a loss by one of their house fighters.
Well it's not like they could've showed the final montage with huge grins on their face. They wouldn't dare smile about any losing fighter with blood all over their face. I agree they would probably be more excited after a Cotto victory because everybody loves an undefeated fighter and it's really the only reason. An undefeated Cotto/Mayweather matchup would always be a bigger even than Margarito/Mayweather. He has almost cried before nothing bothered me about last night at all. If you're upset with HBO about being bias wouldn't you guys be even more upset by them reacting to a Cotto victory? How can you let this bother you guys? They weren't jumping for joy when Forrest beat Mosley twice or when SSM lost to Winky. Maybe HBO has had a problem for years? You guys would be twice as hurt if Cotto actually won :|
A lot of it had to do with a very close friend on the production crew is going through serious medical issues...Lampley couldn't even get out the words at the end. It was obviously weighing heavily on his mind. It helps to watch the whole broadcast.
