Haye hasn't done **** at HW, AND he had chin problems at cruiserweight. He's nothing more than a knockout waiting to happen at HW, and it WOULD have happened - early - if he'd faced Wlad. Now he'll have to fight a few softies before he faces Wlad. One of those guys might very well knock him out.
Derrick, I hate to get personal, but this latest post of yours is incredibly ignorant. Criticize Vlad as a fighter all you want. Point out his flaws, and, if you need to, don't let people forget that Vlad doesn't measure up to past greats like Holmes, Tyson, and Lewis. That's reasonable. But whatever you do, don't pretend that Vlad "takes the easy fights." The guy has fought everyone available. He has cleaned out the heavyweight division. He has ducked nobody. And, if after all this time you still don't understand the business reasons why Vlad will not accept Haye for July 11th, please have private conversation with one of ESB's more knowledgeable posters to get some perspective on how this sport works.
You are right, sir. Would you guess this is directly proportionate to the product we end up with...i.e, these guys are getting SOOOOO Rich, that they could just hardly give a **** anymore. OR Would you say indirectly proportionate, i.e...All that money don't help, and it's something else?
I really doubt that. Just the people on these boards. I could walk down the street and not find anyone that knows either of these guys.
Were you an informed fan, you would know that HBO declined the fight in order to hopefully buy a rescheduled Wlad-Haye fight in the fall, since team Klitschko still hopes to fight Haye at a later date.
Right now, Haye is on the same level that Gerry Cooney was in 1981-82, just before Cooney's showdown with Larry Holmes. Like Cooney, Haye is an exciting, hard hitting prospect who is incredibly marketable, but who hasn't yet proven that he's good enough to tangle with the champ. Like Cooney, Haye is getting his title shot because of his marketability, and not because of his accomplishments in the ring. It's not such an awful thing though...boxing needs a marketable fighter like Haye today just as much as boxing needed an exciting fighter like Cooney back in 1982.
HBO sold us Berto-Urango, Dawson-Tarver II, and Lacy-Taylor - but they don't want to televise a world Heavywegiht unification match with over 60,000 tickets sold between the dominant king and an undefeated left-handed titleholder? something is wrong here. If Klitschko were a Golden Boy fighter, HBO would televise it.
While that's fair, and I DO understand exactly what you mean (To Be Honest, IMO, Wlad vs Haye looks in stature and size (weight %'s) to be no different than say K. Pavlik vs. M. Cotto), so I do understand. But Haye is fighting at the same size as Tyson, Holyfield, etc... It's just Wlad and Vitali that are so damn huge AND athletic that makes the big difference. All I know is PEOPLE World Wide were genuinely and emotionally excited as hell for Haye, only hardcore boxing fans (and among those it's mainly fans of the HW division) are really pumped for Chagaev. That's nothing against Chag as a fighter, and there's no doubt he's the BEST stand in that could be dreamed of, it's just that to most fans, that's not really gettin' the blood flowin' like it was.
Foooo-EEEE Mr. Hermit.:tong I could walk down the streets of Huntington and nobody has EVER heard of Kelly Pavlik, M. Cotto, F. Mayweather, Klits, Haye, JMM, MAB, Chad Dawson, etc... Now sir, as I told you before, even the harcores in that arena we attended SHOCKED me with the bull **** I was hearing around me. Some said "hey, that's RJJ? Yeah, he's the guy that fought that Mexican, and they found out he loaded gloves!!??". After correcting about 8 or so people, I just started bein' like "yeah, ya'll are right:rofl". All I'm sayin' is, unfortunately, you RARELY in this common days find anybody that knows some **** about boxing. AND, I really wanted to see this, Sir.
HBO should show this meaningful unification fight. Why wouldn't it want to show the world's best heavyweight and a top 10 p4p fighter against the 3rd or 4th best heavyweight in the world? It sure beats Andre Berto-Juan Urango and Tarver-Dawson. Hopefully Showtime snaps this one up.
This is 100% true, and one of the more amazing tid-bits to come out of this fiasco, is the appearance that Wlad must have the whole upper half of the HW division on speed dial, and it showed how many of them are really scared to fight him. Fans of some have decent arguments, their man was not in fighting shape is a fair one...but others, not so much. It really showed how little even the top guys would jump at a chance with Wlad.:yep
Gali G had excellent post regarding the difference between cruiser and heavyweight - it's a big difference and it always has been. Haye had 1 quality win as a cruiser. he was never a dominant champ. he had 1 good win and proceeded to avoid any serious competition after that. Enzo sucks and he always has don't even bring that fool into the conversation. Haye is an unproven fighter. Pac isn't, and that was a very poor example. Haye had problems with monte barrett who is at this point a top 30 fighter. Why don't we use Holyfield as an example. Much better example, actually a cruiser moving up to heavyweight, and he was much more proven than David Haye as a cruiserweight, and he still had several heavyweight fights - earned his title shot.
On a post to answer Gali G, I used Holyfield as an example. So is this the official stance of all boxing fans? It's OK for guys in all other divisions they were in charge of and jump 1 or 2 divisions and fight the best there, JUST NOT HW?
