HBO is hurting the sport. Agree or disagree?

  1. HBO -Isn't hurting the sport:patsch **** they are finally getting it that people are broke, that's why the Mosley-Margo fight wasn't on PPV, 3 years ago they would have charged 40bucks for that fight:huh
And i don't give a **** if they only show 1 fight, as long as it's the main event, to much in the past undercards were flooded with mismatches, guy' spadding their records, against tomato cans with 14-16 records i don't wanna see that ****...
Hbo in my opinion has shown better fight's than showtime over the past 10yrs..

They are hurting the sport because they keep broadcasting overrated fighters and not allowing other fighters that are deserving to get airtime.

But what's really hurting is boxing is not having talented prospects or not allowing championship matches outside of HBO or Showtime. It's a combination of the fighters, managers, and networks that hurt boxing.

But Migeul Cotto vs Michael Jennings should be PPV? HBO should do as much as possible to limit PPV matches.

Cotto vs. Jennings is not an HBO ppv. It's being distributed by Top Rank. HBO passed on that fight.

I wouldn't exactly say they are hurting the sport but they hurt themselves when they avoid putting on great fighters like Clottey/Cintron and Taylor vs Froch, each had the potential to be fight of the year candidates. That's why i laugh when people try to convince me that HBO is better than Show time boxing. HBO is more popular but when you think about it, show time produces young and up coming prospects almost every week and has more title fights than HBO.

  6. Thanks:good
HBO did the right thing passing on that JUNK, who the hell is jennings, he's just there to be sacrificed:-(..
Boxing fans want to see competitive matches:deal not the top fighters whipping up on Tomato cans..........

Is that a recent development? I thought I saw HBO promoting the PPV double bill with Cotto-Jennings and Pavlik-Rubio.

Everyone in boxing is in it to make money...HBO is going on history and that shows that European fighters fail in the states to make decent ratings

As far as the Williams Clottey fight...That was never going to happen like people thought, Clottey was hurt and couldnt spar for several months after the Judah fight....By that time Williams had already pretty much had his next two fights line up..He is fighting Wright at 154, in April, going to 160 in late summer and back down to 147 at the end of the year...I dont think that is smart but that is for another topic....Point being a fight with Clottey wouldnt have been likely until late in 09 or this time in 10.

HBO has started the year off right, just need to keep going in this direction.

Even before then, although a lot of PPVs, were still easily ahead of Showtime.

Does HBO put on FREE great fights like Bute/Andrade, Dawson/Tarver, Dawson/Johnson, Tarver/Woods( not exciting but still high profile), Bradley/Witter, Darchinayin/Mijares, Direll/Oganov, Darchinayin/Arce( just to name a few) and bring out great prospects like Dirrell and Angulo? For fights like that, HBO would either make them PPV or not make them at all. Show time is much better.

Yeah they do. I mean it's HBO. But on a dollar per dollar basis, i don't think they compare with Showtime. What HBO also does is steal Showtimes home grown fighters and steal them once they can't afford them anymore. :good And then, they try their best to protect them and ride them out until they lose. Then they dump them.
