HBO is paying $1.25 million for the Berto/Hernandez fight

Berto is one of their worst most recent investments. They should just burn the money.

 

Hernandez isn't a bad fighter and he should give Berto a good fight. He won't beat Berto but he'll make Berto work for his win. But 1.25 million is an absurd amount of money for this fight. I just read where the participants in Showtime's bantamweight tournament are making 150,000 each for that fight. That whole card is less than what Berto alone will make for facing Hernandez.

I'm assuming HBO wants to keep Berto in the mix for a ppv fight with Mayweather, Pacquaio, Cotto, or even Mosley. More exposure on the network should mean more ppv buys if those fights ever come off. But 1.25 million is way too much for this fight when you compare it to other fights.

 

This is a very fair post. If this was the type of thing people had been saying throughout the thread, Condescending IB would have never had to crawl out of his hidey-hole.

Cry foul on HBO for blowing their boxing budget, and dress down Berto as a not-ready-for-primetime (and certainly not ready for seven figures) player. Don't take it out on the Rail. :nod

 

The condescending IB hurt my feelings a little bit. My post count dropped from 180.25 per day to 180.24 per day afterward.
