No one cares about watching these limited athletes. The US has moved out of boxing for multiple generations now. As such, the athletes parading as heavyweights are all unexceptional. The US market lauds entertainment and great athleticism - no matter where it comes from or originates. If there were any great talents in the division there would be no problem finding an audience - in fact, people would demand to see it. But, the sad reality is that these large sized athletes are "C" class and not worth watching. Find some extraordinary athletes and there will be a market. As it is, people know limited athletic quality when they see it even if scrubs on ESB can't seem to discern great talent from merely average ****.

It's a bad thing if you like heavyweight boxing...and that was the point I made earlier. For all of those dingbats that cheer decisions like this, what they don't get is that it hurts the entire division, not just one fighter.

As a boxing fan, I agree. I don't like heavyweight boxing in general but not to show a heavyweight championship fight is almost sacrilegious.

As an accountant, I'd have to see what the possible return is for the money that would cost HBO to show the fight. If they lose money, I can understand why.

That's not true. They showed both the Rachman and the THompson fight and they were after IGGY.

If you think the fight is going to be boring, then yes you can.

HBO, or anyone else, shouldn't be mandated to show a fight just because the Champ of a particular division is competing. If they don't think it's going to make compelling viewing, then they have every right to not show it.

    :good

The only fight from Wlad HBO did not show was against Chagaev because HBO wants Wlad to postpone the fight. But this was impossible because of 61.000 tickes and the stadion was sell out.

I think it is just about boxing politics.

Sad for Chambers but another US TV will show the fight so the Fans in the US can watch the No. 1 contender Eddy Chambers.

Incredibly stupid. Just as they boycotted Wlad's last fight that turned out to be a great one to watch. HBO is making it their regular duty to make horrible decisions.

Then they should stop calling themselves a great boxing network. How are you missing this? You can't claim to be the greates boxing network on cable and not show important fight. Also, who in god's name to you know, absolutely, that this fight is going to be boring? Maybe it won't be. Maybe Chambers will push Wlad like never before and it'll be a great fight. I for one think this is going to be a compelling fight.

Also, there are many, many things they could have done if they were serious about thei commitment to boxing programming rather than just ratings. They could have packaged it with another fight, etc. I'm sure that it is not all that expensive to take a couple of cameras to Germany. The last fight with Vitali vs. Johnson, they put nothing into that fight. They probably spent about twenty bucks promoting the thing.

Now, it's fine if they want to abandon the heavyweight division. I agree that it is weak. But they must than stop promoting themselves as a boxing network. Originally, that was why I purchased HBO. Not for the lousy movies they rerun every 4 hours, but for the sports programming.

You earn the right to be called a great boxing network by showing great fights. Is that really so hard to understand?

Of course you never know for sure if a fight is going to be exciting or not - you have to make an educated guess. Wladimir is hardly Arturo ****ing Gatti is he though? Odds are the fight isn't going to evoke memories of Foreman-Lyle.

If HBO use the money they would have spent on this fight, on another which promises to be better, is that not a good thing?

No, it's not a good thing.

Wladimir is the HW Champion & Chambers earned his mandatory status.

For the hardcore fan of boxing Wlad vs Chambers will be a nice fight to watch.

For the regular fan, it will be a boring, slow, dull waste of a saturday night. That's why HBO is not buying it. Both fighters styles willl make for a tatical, defensive bout, anyway it still should make good in Germany.

I think HBO will pick up Wlad vs Povetkin later on the year, that should be a fan friendly fight with some good workrate, lots of action and drama.

I think HBO does. You think they don't care if a 4 year long subscriber ends their subscription? You are a fool if you do. :good Especially if other subscribers do the same.
