Johan Pérez vs. Dmitry Mihkalenko, 12 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Pérez is swapping jabs with Mikhaylenko on the outside, first and last to fire but getting plugged with sneaky digs on his torso in between. Mikhaylenko is showing a good varied defense standing in the pocket, alternating between turtle shell and swaying from side to side, which helps put torque on his body hooks.

Round 2

Pérez is jabbing and hooking on the back-foot. Mikhaylenko is using nice swirling motions to slip punches and forking the right hand into Pérez's lungs while finishing every sequence with a left hook on the body or neck. Big wraparound looping rights below the ear by Mikhaylenko. Pérez answering back with a few shoeshines downstairs but mostly limited to mid-range shots while moving in reverse, by far the less effective of the pair even though nobody has yet rung the other's bell.

This has distance written all over it.

 

Round 3

Pérez is jabbing over the mobile head of Mikhaylenko and then shooting over it as Mikhaylenko rams his way in close, face down. Mikhaylenok is putting together solid combos on the inside, clapping both fists off Pérez's sides and swiveling to slip & counter, finishing with hooks up top. Pérez is mimicking his movements but not pulling it off as well.
