It is crazy money show pay mayweather but iv heard crazy claims they need to have 1.5mil buys to break even. Do people think they're stupid... how many times has floyd done 1.5 or over... 4/5 times? No business would be that stupid...
not even going to argue with someone who doesn't even understand how PPV works. How old are you? 12? The Guerrero and Maidana fights did about the same PPV wise. Sho isn't making money on those numbers. Maybe the Canelo fight still has them on the plus side of things overall. Regardless the September fight is going to be interesting.
how did this 1m all the sudden become the # to be made for the fight to break even ? you guys cant be this phucking ignorant to think it needs to be over 1m to make money. some of you arent in the real world
obviously you dont know how anything works when it comes to proceeds from fights.. stop sounding like a moron. kid, ppv's are 70 bucks a pop, unless you're a broke dude without hd, they get the split how they want with 49.smg %.
I find it hilarious how bent out shape some guys get over the money that a huge company makes or loses. You would think someone insulted their moms.
So, in other words, the Mayweather deal: - took a number 1 attraction away from a rival (HBO) - raised the overall profile of Showtime Boxing into a legit threat to HBO and a location for other young, marketable fighters (Khan, Broner, Garcia, Matthysee, etc.) - created (so far) one ppv carrying star in Canelo Alvarez (post Mayweather loss) - is currently, at WORST, a break even deal financially So, what's the problem again?
Not even close to break even, dude. For the Guerrero fight, Mayweather had to make more than 1 million buys. This number then increased to 1.5 million for the Maidana fight. These numbers are just to break even and Mayweather didn't attain them. The fact that the numbers went up from 1 million to 1.5 million makes me think that Showtime was trying to make-up from the losses they suffered from the Guerrero fight. If September rolls along and Mayweather gets bad numbers again, Showtime is going to freak because that'd be three flops with no breathing room other than a fight with Pacquiao.
Remember a golden rule of business, never let it be known how much you've lost, Do you honestly expect Showtime to come out and say "ye we lost big money on the Guerrero and Maidana fights" they will lie and tell us it was over 1m no way will they admit a big loss same with any other promoter or business. Fact is Showtime were expecting 1m + buys for all floyd's fights when they signed that deal that hasn't been the case no way are they happy.
And how exactly are you factoring in the fact that in-between these to two (allegedly) 'money losing' fights, they staged the most lucrative fight in the history of the sport. You honestly think the break even point on this contract went up 50% from the Guerrero fight to the Maidana fight after Canelo, the 2nd largest ppv buys and most money generating fight of all time? That make sense to you?
Admitting that Floyd's PPV flopped means loss of marketing power and leverage. If been able to making deals with deal operators to take a few % less in the past for PPVs, a flops means they can't make those demands anymore. They won't be able to get a lower site fee or high ticket prices. They also lose leverage if they try to make a Pacquiao fight. If suddenly Floyd is on Pac's level in terms of drawing power, everyone loses leverage.
Truly truly a blunder. atsch There is conflict of interest . Showtime exec Stephen Espinoza used to be gbp lawyer :bart
